Jessa, were you diagnosed with a B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia), and are you taking B12 orally or through injection? I believe injection is the only way to treat, not oral.
I have read that deficiency of B12 can give gastro problems too.
I left a note for you. Saw your note to me regarding exercise. And I saw your bio (?) or whatever it is called. I know what it is like to not be able to find a diagnosis. Hope you are well soon.
Pretty much my GP (family doctor) is the one who refers me to everyone... at least, that's the way it works in Canada. You can't go to see a specialist unless you get a referral by a general practitioner.
Although, a good way to get bumped up on the list if it is taking WAY TOO LONG to get the appointment after the referral has gone through is to just go to the ER (if you really can't stand your symptoms of course)... and if you HAVE neurological symptoms... you will be seen by the emergency neurologist on staff ASAP and you will also be bumped up on the list to see a neurologist as an out patient for follow-up.
Oh, and I asked the vegetarian question because a LOT of vegetarians have B12 troubles... it's hard to get B12 if you're a vegetarian... I know quite a few people with medical problems who have had to start eating some meat in order to get some of the nutrients they need. I'm still a vegetarian... but... anyway, it's good that you're not if you suffer from a B12 deficiency... probably makes it easier to treat you. You'd likely be in a LOT of trouble if you were a vegetarian!!
i'm not a vegatarian. i try to eat healthy..for most part i get veggies and fruit at least 4 times a week..i love sweets though!! i think i will take the tablets, still request test and i get a monthly shot. i am a smoker though, i know it's bad but i'm not ready to give it up....Who first sent you to nuerologist? what did you say? What meds do you take??
My GP gives B12 shots to his patients that have low-iron, chronic fatigue AND to patients who get headaches!! You should ask your GP to give you B12 shots... weekly or monthly depending on what your GP says...
You can also take B12 tablets that you can buy at any health food store or drug store that sells vitamins... I would strongly suggest buying the "sublingual" kind if they sell them where you are purchasing them... they dissolve in your mouth under your tongue and enter your blood stream MUCH faster than the regular pills.
Although, even if you do start taking B12, you will probably still need B12 shots.
I take B12 every day, sublingual tablets that I buy at the health food store. I used to have to get shots too until my levels were within normal range. Now my levels are within normal range so I just take the tablets every day to keep it that way ;)
Can I ask if you're a vegetarian too by any chance?
I will try to make an appt to get the b12 situatuation better understood. What kind of questions should i be asking? If my b12 levels are off could this cause a 3 week headache? jessa
I have had all sorts of blood tests and thryoid tests...all fine. no recent trauma, no trauma to beck or neck ever.thanks for trying.i also do not have acid reflux took meds for that for months and made no difference. the 2 forms of birth control are because i have the mirena iud and wasnt getting my period reguarly, getting it at all, but was having the cramps and pains in tummy all the time, since i started the additional oral birth control pill my tummy rarely hurts.
Hi,
You have mentioned B 12 deficiency. It will help us t know what treatment are you taking to correct this. B 12 deficiency can cause creepy crawly sensations, fatigue and headaches. If you are taking treatment then it is important to get B 12 levels checked to make sure that B 12 levels are normal.
Keep us posted.
Hi.....may I ask y 2 forms of birth control? and what r the side effects of the meds u r on.
If u r going to a rhuematoid dr...he most likely will check u for things like lymes, lupus....and I imagine labs to check ur vitamin D and B12 levels as well as ur calcium, magnessium and potassium.
I would also suggest u also get ur thyroid checked, if u have not already.
U said u saw a GI dr...and IBS was ruled out...what about gerd/acid reflux?
One more question...have u had any traumas to ur neck or back in the last few yrs....ne falls?
Good luck
