Moderate headache, randomly severe

Hello.

I have had a constant headache since last Tuesday (August 19th) which was 9 days ago. The headache started just like any average headache I have ever experienced, just some slight pain in the back of my head, located on the back right side. I just thought it was a migraine which I experience a lot, that was until last Thursday (August 20th). I experienced something different. A pain that woke me from a sudden sleep. I started to experience the worst pain I have ever felt in my life in the back of my head on the right side. It was a severe cramping pain, followed by a strange burning sensation, then the pain spread into my ear canal and down the right side of my face. Slightly blurred vision also accompanied this pain. Immediately I got into a super hot bath hoping it would help me, but the pain just continued. After about 15 minutes the severe pain stopped completely, followed by the average headache. The exact same thing happened to me Saturday and again last night. I have had a dull headache that has been constant since last week, I just get random 15 to 20 minute bouts of extreme pain. It isn't something I can ignore, it is causing much trouble in my life and making it hard to function properly.

Any ideas what this might be? Thank you.

Hi,
I feel like some of my migraines will shoot up into severe pain eventually even if they've been in moderate pain level for a few days. Not always, but it's happened a few times. Except usually once I get to severe level I take my emergency pills or get a shot at urgent care so I don't know if it would go down on it's own. I couldn't handle the pain long enough. I don't get Aura or any other symptoms and I have regular migraines not any kind of subtype.
