HCG levels after miscarriage

When should HCG levels drop to an undetectable level after a  miscarriage at 5 weeks of pregnancy, followed by surgical abortion? My HCG was at 20,  three and a half weeks after the procedure. Is a new pregnancy more likely than having residual HCG at this point?

Very sorry to hear about your loss.  That's always really hard!  This is my guess, but I would guess the 20 HCG level is likely residual from the miscarriage.  Think about surgical abortion.  The body is going to still produce those hormones for a while.  And 20 is so very low that it is hard to think it would be indicative of a new pregnancy.  The average time for women to go back to normal after a miscarriage D and C is 9 to 35 days.

Are you trying again??  I wish you so much luck and please stay in touch.  hugs
