I think I am miscarrying

I am 10 weeks 5 days pregnant.  I went in at 8 weeks 3 days and found out I had a small tear in the placenta and to stay on bedrest.  I did.  I went to the ER because of severe cramping and I started bleeding.  The ER doctor refused to do a sono.  I told him I wanted one and he told me to follow up with my regular OB.  But my HCG levels went from 43,918 on Oct 3 and dropped to 22,000.  He told me it is normal for my levels to drop and since my cervix is still closed not to be concerned.  I am.  I think he got his license from a Cracker Jack Box and is a complete idiot.  Anyone have the HCG levels drop at this point in pregnancy and go on to have a healthy baby?

I went in for my sono today and the baby looked good, was moving and had a strong heart beat (167).  I don't know anything more about the tear in the placenta, but the sono tech said the radiologist will read the pictures and send a message to my doctor.  So, I will find out more on Monday.

I will agree that the doctors sounds like he got his license out of a cracker jack box. Maybe it was coming to the end of his shift and he felt like he was better off passing you down the line to your OB so he could go home.  I am hoping for the best for you at this point but the dropping in numbers is concerning..

The levels can drop around the beginning of the second trimester, but this sounds like it's a little early for that.  Were the levels run at the same lab?  I'm not sure if hcg is a test that can vary by lab, but I know many blood tests aren't really comparable unless they're run by the same lab, so I wouldn't panic yet.  I would try to get into your ob as soon as you can, and hopefully your little bean is fine!

it is NOT normal for your HCG to drop. I don't know why he told you that, especially that much. Unfortunately all you can really do right now is wait and see what happens because if you are miscarrying they can't stop it. When is your next appointment??
