Hello~I am new to this forum, but this looks like the place to ask my question.
About a week or so ago, I started having some dizziness, but nothing serious like vertigo, well, a couple of days ago, I went to bed and all of a sudden, it started to spin big time. I finally was able to sit up and call 911 (over here in New Zealand, it is 111)Oh my, it was the worse night I have had in I don't know how long, I had to call the ambulance, twice, for me. I was having such awful vertigo, the room kept spinning and wouldn't stop, I couldn't get out of bed, it finally settled down before they got here, they did the usual EKG, O2 Sat, you know the drill, they said it wasn't a stroke or heart, but it was probably a very severe form of vertigo. They were with me about an hour. When they left, I was sort of OK, I lay back down, and whamo, it was horrible again and this time I was sick to my tummy. I talked to an EMT first, then he suggested that the ambulance return, this time is was a different group. They did the same tests and said almost the same thing. But they spent even more time with me,they left around 5:00AM it was getting light out. I didn't go back to bed, I slept on the recliner in the living room. They did this test where you lay on your back, the EMT or doctor holds your head, it feels so awful because you are spinning, then, after a few minutes, they quickly turn your head to the other direction and hold it, this side was worse, then, they flip you on your tummy. I think it is called the Epely Maneuver. Well, it didn't work, when I sat up, I started to have dry heaves, I was so scared, they gave me an anti-throw up pill, it helped some, but didn't dissolve as fast as my mouth was cotton-dry. They recommended that I make an appointment with my GP, which I did. I have felt awful since. I am coming down with a cold, and still scared witless over that night. I feel weak and spacey, and I have never cried so much in my life, to be honest, I think I am having another minor nervous breakdown like I did many years ago back home. I have been so stressed for so long, my nerves are shot. I have very brief episodes of vertigo in the past, but never as bad as last night, now I am afraid to go to bed or lay down. I am miserable. :-(
When I saw my doctor, she tried to reassure me that it was not serious, that vertigo was common as we get older, (I am 62). She prescribed an anti-vertigo pill for me called Prochlorperazine Maleate 5mg Tab It seems to help, but when it wears off, the vertigo comes back even worse. I am scared, instead of it getting better, it is getting worse, this morning when I got up, I waked to the bathroom, all of a sudden I got a head zap, and very unsteady and hit the door and almost couldn't get the toilet seat up. I was petrified. I hobbled into the other room, took my pill, and it settled down, but wow, it was horrendous. When I bend down to wash my hair, the sink spins, so I have to hold on to the faucet, today, after taking my drug, it didn't happen, but it always feels like it is in the background.
I do have fibromyalgia, so I don't know if it is that, an inner ear infection, or something worse like MS. I have had some test such as the CBC, Thyroid, Liver panel, A1c, some neuro-checks like putting my finger on hers and back to my nose as she moves her hand, standing with my eyes shut, walking a straight line with one foot directly in front of the other, etc,she said I did well in all. Still, I am worried. I am also under tons of stress, my husband had a bad bowel cancer last year, was in hospital for 85 days, he is cancer free, so they say, now, but still having lots of issues and was back in right before Christmas for 2 weeks. I am under lots of other stresses as well.
If I don't feel better after the weekend, I am going back in again to see my doctor, I am totally miserable. Does this sound like beginning MS or fibro, I know we are not doctors here, I am a community leader on the General Health forum, but this time, I need some help. Thank you.
