Alien Hand

Has anyone had any occurrence of alien hand syndrome in conjunction with MS? My MD believes I may be experiencing this. I was diagnosed with MS in 2001.

Thanks for your input. My arm goes completely numb with pins and needles for about 1-2 minutes. My mind tells me it is at my side, but when I look over it is actually extended or even rising by my side. I have even mistaken it when I look around for someone else's arm. I will let you know more as I go through things with my MD. FYI I was diagnosed in 2001.

I don't know if what I experience is "alien hand syndrome" but I do know that I have experienced times when my hand will curl up - without my knowledge...I don't even feel it curling or moving...I will look at it & think - huh - why is my hand curled up like that?  I have a lesion in my corpus callosum....

Hugs,
Chrisy

I just watched a youtube video of this - quite fascinating and many there commented on the link between this phenomenon and damage to the corpus callosum.  Their reference point was this is caused by damage done by stroke but I can imagine MS damage could also do the same if it hits the right spot.

thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I didn't realize that htis was a real phenomenon.  Sorry.  My hand essentially does what I want it to, but feels as though it belongs to the alien.  Maybe this is a form of "Obedient Alien Hand".

I have a right hand that flops around and looks like it's having a seizure all by itself...I knock it up to myoclonic jerks.  It only happens as I am trying to go sleep and it has caused my hubby to wake up yelling because ":the hand" has smacked him in his manly bits...and I have no mind control over it!  You are now entering the place known as "The Twilight Zone" boo, boo, boo, boo   boo, boo, boo boo...
Seriously it is a really creepy feeling and I think it may be related to the tremor I have developed in that hand.  I hope you get somewhere with this!

Lots of Hugs,
Rena

That explains that bizarre rentals of "I Married A Martian" and "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "Mars Needs Women."

I just read a little bit on alien hand syndrome, and it's an interesting idea.  Personally I have a problem with proprioperception of my right hand and leg - I know they're there, but I can't rely on them.

I think I know what you mean.  There are times when it feels like I am trying to work with a hand that isn't mine.  It only happens on the right with the hand that is most involved with the MS.  I pick up a pen to write and the pen feels foreign and the handwriting is not something I would claim as mine.  This is not an uncommon thing, but luckily for me mine only lasts for a few days at a time.

Perhaps, we are really channeling a being from another time/space dimension.  If so, I wonder what they are doing writing checks out of my account.

Hi Mickmcq and welcome!

Please explain alien hand syndrome, I've never heard of it, but it sounds like something I might have experienced.

I was just dx'd March 2010.
