Just checking in after a long break

Hello everyone, It is nice to see how much this forum has grown.

I have been away for maybe six months??? I am doing pretty good. I just went to see a new family doc. He seems to be interested. He mentioned the possiblity of my going to someplace like the Clevland Clinic or here in my area Henry Ford. I told him I was not sure I was up for this and may just want to continue to lay low from all the tests and such.  He is supposed to review all the records. He wondered if the neuro suggested or looked for something called Myositis.

"Myositis
Myositis is inflammation of your skeletal muscles, which are also called the voluntary muscles. These are the muscles you consciously control that help you move your body. An injury, infection or autoimmune disease can cause myositis.

The diseases dermatomyositis and polymyositis both involve myositis. Polymyositis causes muscle weakness, usually in the muscles closest to the trunk of your body. Dermatomyositis causes muscle weakness, plus a skin rash. Both diseases are usually treated with prednisone, a steroid medicine, and sometimes other medicines."  http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/myositis.html

I am not really sure I am up to going through all of this testing and doctoring again. Things have been pretty quiet for me. I had no symptoms for a couple of months and about one-two months ago the numbness (only at night) came back in both arms from the elbow up. A few times during this quiet period I woke up with a numb foot. My right ears seems to be collecting moisture and I have had slight balance issues for the last couple of weeks. Nothing I would have noticed or paid attention to before all this started.

I wish you all well!!

Nancy

Nice to hear from you all. Quix, the paresthesias is concerning and the doc suggested that I see another neuro. He would suggest I see a woman who has a three month waiting list or do the clevand/henry ford extensive testing thing. I was concerned about this being the fourth. He said that sometimes it takes 4-5 to get answers.  He also said with the abnormal tests e.g. modified romberg and marching in place with eyes closed and not staying straight may indicate something is going on in the Cerebellum?? spelling. He thinks PT and OT may help to sort this out.

I really do not know what to think at this point. I did not give him an answer regarding seeing another neuro or the OT. I did take him up on the PT because I have been involved in two car accidents over the last two months and my lower back is in some pain!!!

I am tired and weary of all the docs, and I really do not want to go through being told I am too sensitive to my body again!!!!!  OHHH What to dooooo!!!

It is good to "see" you again!  Sounds like you are on the fence as to what you really want to do.  Maybe coming back to us, talking it over and getting some opinions will help you.  It is good to hear things have settled down for you a bit.

There are SO many new members here...sad to see so many in search of help but it is nice they do have somewhere to go!

Hope you stick around if you can!

Wanna :o)

Hey, Girl!!  Good to see you here.  I knew you were lying low, but we miss you all the same.  Maybe you have had enough of a break so that being with us won't keep you all riled up.

How do all the paresthesias you have fit in with myositis and it's variations?  I have taken care of kids with both kinds.  they had muscle pain and weakness, but none of them had paresthesias.  Paresthesias are a nerve problem.  Myositis is a direct muscle inflammation.  I'll look it up.

Shelly - Yes, it is good not to have to think of you as "slow."

Hey there!

Nice to see you! Thanks for popping in. So many new members huh? It's amazing how we are still all one big family!

Only you know if you are ready.  It would be understandable to not go through w/more testing, but if you can get up enough strength to do it, maybe they will see something.  So you like this new family Dr - that is very good news. I'd like to find a new one myself. Does he know of the Neuro's in Henry Ford? Maybe you'd feel more comfortable starting up the treck again if you had some background info on them.

I hope you don't stay away so long again like this. . . .

See you around!
Shelly (you may remember as SL ha/ha...gave up my name finally)
