Hi Kelly,
Welcome to the MS Forum. I am one of the older "veterans" of MS on the forum. I have been diagnosed for 13 years. The "water feeling" running down my leg or the sensation of sitting in water happen to me alot. It is thought to do with damage somewhere in the spinal cord. In people with MS, a lesion somewhere between the cervical spine and the throacic spine.
Everything you describe sounds like a problem in the spine. Maybe you could let us know what testing you have had done so far, if you have had any. It may be enough information for us to comment further.
"Shell" gave you directions to a great article that may explain more. As Mike said it is found in the upper right hand corner under "Health Pages."
Again welcome,
Heather
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for joining us! I'm not-so qualified to answer, but what I've learned here is that these feelings of burning, water moving, running, etc., are most likely parathesias. Mine have caused a feeling of burning directly across the majority of my back from about midway down. Also, for approx. 3 months, and before I learned what it was I would have sworn that if a Dr. would just put a stethascope on my spine that they would "hear" the water moving around. I would have sworn on it.
Well, I had some new imaging and there was nothing new there. I couldn't believe it. This water moving around nightmare was coupled with pressure, and a bad feeling in my legs too. But, mine was the opposite of yours. If I were walking it was better. It was sitting, and laying and standing that I had a hard time doing.
My Dr says it's due to the damage in my spinal cord. I have my largest lesion in my c-spine and it traverses the cord. So, this is what they say is going on.
We have an unbelievable write up on "parathesias" It's titled Parathesias, things that go bump in the night. It was written by Quixotic1. You will learn so much from this - it's amazing! My Drs didn't even tell me the name of it. I learned here.
You go to the Dr. yet for any of your symptoms so far?
Welcome, Kell,
See you around!
Shelly
Welcome to "limboland". We are many and we are a close knit community, as is this whole MS forum. I have only been a member for a couple of weeks now but wow! do they ever make you feel welcome. Anyways; as to your "running water in leg" symptom, I have never experienced it, although I am sure some member(s) have had similiar symptoms.
I have many symptoms similiar to yours: uncoordinated movement (clinical name is something like taxia; although I am sure someone will correct me, I hope) "functional" weakness; fatigue; burning and tingling; plus brain fog; Myoclonus, tremors and Ballistic movement.
Hang in there I am sure someone way more qualified than I am can respond more intelligently.
Take care, hang in there and try the Health Pages at the top right hand corner of screen; very informative.
Mike
