Thanks, Laura. I will be seeing my primary doc in two days, and I will ask her about the MS Centers which were listed. The closest one is six hours away, but it will be worth it, to go to a specialist. Thanks again, Laura. Take care. Jan.
Those centers listed at the consortium site are people and centers who have taken the time to get the MS certification according to their requirements. It isn't an easy thing to do and it takes a dedicated neurologist to complete the process. I believe the NMSS site includes general neuros, as well. The docs on the consortium site mainly focus on MS and little else in the neuro world, which is quite expansive.
I'm glad you found some options- most of them will want a referral from your doctor and copies of your MRIs/test results.
Thank you, Laura! I found several options...is it better to use the Consortium, rather than the MS Society, for our searches? Thanks again. I will ask my primary doc about some of these. Jan.
Jan, I'll still take a minute to suggest you visit the MS consortium site to see if you can locate an MS specialist closer to you -

good luck in finding someone closer, Laura
Thanks, JB...guess I am just frustrated, in general. I just found out, though, on the Minneapolis National MS website, that there are a couple 'MS Centers', in Sioux Falls, SD. That is at least feasible for me, distance-wise (6 hour drive).
I am just trying to be proactive, in case I feel that I should be seeing an MS Specialist, instead of my general neuro. Thanks again, all...YOU CAN DISREGARD THIS POST (sorry for the caps...just trying to save everyone time in having to read this whole post)...it has been answered! Thanks again. Jan.
Hello,
your not being ignored and even in highly populated areas it is very difficult to get an appointment with an MS specialist and to find a MS specialist.
Best best of luck to you to find somebody soon, sorry about the difficulty you're having on finding a specialist.
take care
JB
