Deterioration of eyesight

In March of 07 I went to my friendly Opthalmologist and had my eyes tested because I was having a real hard time reading print and it was gradually getting worse.  My eyes were examined and I was told that my eyes have not changed in 2 years and the deterioration I had was due to MS.  I went back to the same Opthalmologist last fall and was given all the required tests and the dr. said that it was the same problem...my eyes have not changed and changing my glasses is not going to make a bit of difference...my eyes have not changed in almost 3 years and the problems I am having are due to MS.  I had this Opthalmologist send a letter stating the same to my neuro at the time and the neuro said that the Opthalmologist doesn't know what he is talking about!

Now it is May...a year after the original eye test and my eyesight has further deteriorated in that when I am tired I can't read print in the TV guide in the evening and even seeing images on TV is a struggle.  I am squinting and turning my head and nothing is helping.  If I take my glasses off and hold the TV guide up to my nose I can read it but otherwise it is all a big blur!

Has anyone else had deterioration of their eyesight that was blamed on their MS?  I am wondering if I should seek the opinion of another Opthalmologist as to whether this is MS related or not.  I am going to mention it to the Rheumatologist on Wednesday...I know it is not her area of expertise but maybe she can refer me to a neuro opthamologist since my gp is useless.  My gp was supposed to send me to a lung specialist (she said she sent a letter before I went on vacation but I knew that was BS), she was supposed to send me for neuro psych testing 3 months ago ( I haven't heard anything about this either), she was supposed to send me for a hearing test (that was at the last appt. just before I went on vacation and haven't heard anything about this either!)!  Maybe I can get lucky with the rheumatologist...I have to believe that someone out there is willing to help me or why bother trying anymore right?  I am feeling incredibly frustrated with the whole situation today and I think I am going to call my gp's office and see if I can get any info from her receptionists (yeah, I know I am looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but at least I am trying right?

Rena, I think my eyesight problems are due to MS, but it's a struggle getting any sort of info out of the neurologist.  I get a double vision thing in the right eye, as well as color change.  I find that I can close my right eye when it's really bad, and see okay out of the left.  Sometimes I have no luck at all, and just give up and take a nap.  Then it's a little better.

Sucks, because I love reading.  But when I'm feeling really bad, I can't concentrate anyway, so that's all blown up.

Hey honey...nice to hear from you!  I hate this problem with eyesight...it's just so darn scary!  Between the double vision I have had in the past and now this...I just hope it doesn't last!

Should be interesting to hear what the neuro has to say after such a long time...let me know what is said ok?  I am seeing my rheumy on Wednesday and if she isn't going to help me get in to see an neuropthamologist then I don't know where I will turn???  Time will tell I guess but in the meantime I wish you luck at your appointment next month!

Take care and talk to ya soon honey!

Hi Rena... I have had alot of problems with my eyes for a couple of years.  I went to the eye Dr a few months ago and she said my vision is the same...it's Neurological, whatever that means.  I have double/blurry vision..sometimes I can't read at all.  Times when I have to cover one eye to get up in the morning.  But...she said no vision change...so I guess I'm gettin another brain MRI????  How long that will take...who knows.  But if I was you,,, I would get another opinion..I think I should too.

I'm heading back to my Neurologist July 18th...havn't seen in awhile, so he will see all the changes that have happened to me in the last year and have all the reports from my GP (I hope)....

nice to see you back online...missed you...take care and hang in there.
