Dorsi-Lite Foot Brace

I have mild foot drop. It mostly effects my right foot. The fronts of most of my shoes are scuffed from catching toes. More than once I've hit there deck. My PT told me to look into Dorsi-Lite braces. they're L-shaped and strap tp the top of your feet, turn 90 degrees and extend up the shin.

I don't were them all the time but could, they're pretty discreet. For exercise walking they're great. They have allowed me to extend my walks significantly. If your are looking for a little help with foot drop, they may be an alternative.

I have been using the Dorsi-Lite for about 6 months and I love it!!!
I attach the ankle band wit the Velcro straps to my light weight Skechers Go Walk light weight sneakers. They work great and I am able the walk much better with less effort. It is very comfortable and discreet.  Best thing I have tried for foot drop!

I would be breaking the rules on that one Sarah. :D  It's not recommended that you ever wear slip on shoes regardless of foot drop but this is universal when dealing with PT, OT's & Podiatrists in general.

The brace is strapped around two areas directly to the foot so I personally would see no reason why I wouldn't put my slip ons with it. I just don't tell my Physio or podiatrist about it lol what they don't see won't hurt them. ;-)

I looked up Kyle's foot brace and it too is recommended only for shoes with laces or tops, but not for slip on shoes, darn and double darn.

will keep looking but the price is right!

What you've got sounds like what they wanted me to have. It would cover both sides of the leg, ankle etc & is moulded to the shape of your foot & leg. As I have the RA in my feet & previous Achilles Tendonitis they thought it might be more uncomfortable to wear & I would probably chuck it in the cupboard without wearing it lol.

This one I've got costs around $1700 & is not uncomfortable to walk in but like you I want my slippers on at home so I often don't wear it if at home. I do need some further support for my deformed foot & ankle but I don't think I want anymore braces or splints as I have a house full of different ones for different body parts after having RA all my life.

I like the one Kyle has suggested here but I don't know if it would be strong enough for my right foot drop. I do think it's a good choice to wear around the house though because you can walk bare foot or with most shoes & then we aren't at risk of tripping over our own feet because we aren't wearing the ones we have at home anyway. Lol I hope that made sense...it's been one of those days.

Take Care,

Karry.

I have one similar to yours but my supports are on both sides, its a royal pain to put on and take off but does better than my original one that only had a support on the outside, on one side.

I don't wear it in the house as i don't wear shoes but do tire of lace up shoes…..maybe I could velcro all around my foot LOL

That's a pretty cool idea actually because you can wear that with anything or nothing at all which is handy in a hot country. I have the one that goes into the shoe (under the foot) with the bar up the back of the leg & strapped around the calf which I believe is made of carbon fibre which is very light weight.

I can only wear this with lace ups or shoes with removable inserts which is a pain. It does work well though but not very comfy when you are sitting for long periods in between. I actaully was hoping the Dorsi Strap would be enough for my foot drop but as I have other issues as well they said that a brace was the only option. I will ask about the one you've pointed out though because it's more adaptable.

It may also be an option for my left side which is apparently in need of one but is not as bad as my right.

Thanks for that Kyle.

What a brilliant idea, will definitely look at this if I have a recurrence of foot drop.  I had one of those plastic ones that goes under your foot and then straps around your shin when I had a foot drop at the beginning of September, and what a pain.  Walked funny with it and my shoe didn't fit that well, although it did fit into my gumboots quite well lol.
