Dr's ?????

Hi guys, this is not a question, more of a venting comment.

As you all know, I have been having Dr. troubles for a few years now.  Alot of you can emphasize with me.   Well, I thought I had found the Dr. and was so very happy about our last appointment.

I'm going to a Vascular Surgeon about my feel and legs, and getting a bone scan about my hands. I even got my prescriptions with REFILLS, ( which is unheard of here) ..... and I was a happy woman coming home.  I thought this Dr. was the best, well.......................................

My hubby went the next day to Walmart to fill the prescription.... got home and gave me them.  ( I cried) when I saw the amount of pills that I have to take, and it hit me like a brick .... Well,
upon reading the instructions on the pills, my Baclofen was doubled, ( and I did not know it) , and my Gabapentin was upped to 3600 mgs. per day, and I did not get my Elavil though I was supposed to ......

The pharmacy called me, and asked me about the new instructions, and I was shocked too.
Called tlhe Dr.'s office the next morning, and told them what happened, and as per usual, the Dr. must be having a BAD day.  Well, gee whiz, do all Dr's have BAD DAYS......????

So, I got my Elavil and 25mg. ( so it was doubled) , and I knew that one only...... now, that the instructions are on the bottles, if God forbid, I could not get my own meds, someone would be giving me all the wrong amounts...... ( what do we do now) ... I wrote the new instructions and taped them over t he ones on the bottle, and hope that someone would take those instructions instead.

I'm so frustrated, and my depression is now back, because of the DAMMMMMM Dr's,

Thanks for listening, I know that everyone has their own stuff to deal with, and for some reason, this one just got me....

Hoping to feel better soon,
Candy

Hi Candy,

This is the place to vent, we are all here for you!
I so sorry sorry you are having a rough time :(

It has taken me a long time but I have learned that we must advocate for ourselves. I must admit that this forum has really empowered me to do this. I went to my neuro PA last week and complained that I have had 2 major relapses in the last 17 months. I told her that I wanted to switch to a new DMD. I didn't want to wait until they figured out that Copaxone was not working for me. I also told her that the Bacllofen wasn't really doing the job for me as I kept increasing the dosage, stretched, excersised, went to PT and the spasticity was still so bad that I could hardly walk. I read about Zanaflex on the forum and looked it up on Medhelp and asked if I could try that. She gave me a RX and so far I am happier with this new me :)

Keep up the good work of monitoring your health. Try not to let it get you down. Instead feel empowered!

Cheer up!
Deb

Dear Candy,
Vent away.  It isn't right that we as patients have to monitor our own  meds but sadly this is becoming very commonplace. It is good toknow that you and/or DH knew what you were supposed to be getting.

The raise in gabapentin is the max one can take (me too) and the Elavil accentuates the gabapentin. I cannot live without it due to paraesthias and hand and leg pain.

I don't know about Baclofen. I don't use it because it did not work for me but many others on here use it. Perhaps they will come and address that part.

I'm sorry you are down in the dumps again but those precious grandbabies have to put a smile on your face. Concentrate on the good and let the bad thoughts regarding a dumb doctor slip away. It's been fixed and it's done.

Perhaps a glass of DH homemade wine  will help chill your mood :-)

Wishing you happier days,
Ren
