For our vets - it's about time!

Finally - there was a $10 million amendment approved today to the DoD budget, specifically for MS research.  We have 23,000 veterans with MS and at least 5,000  of those are directly service related.  We have talked about our VA system and its lack of service for our MS vets way too much - I am so happy to report there is finally action.

Special thanks to Sen Barbara Lee (CA) for introducing this amendment and seeing it through to approval.

thank you for your service,
Laura

We have had a few vets pass through here and I have agonized on how difficulty it was to get that diagnosis.  I am hopeful those conditions have changed and there aren't as many obstacles.  Good luck with pursuing answers.

It's good to know the VA Ctr is getting out into the communities - I continue to hope the service for our vets with MS improves.  maybe you can plan ahead and get to attend this meeting -  Laura

I have a lot of AF friends - especially since we live in the area of WPAFB - and absolutely NONE of them will drink the local water.  every last one of them buy the big jugs of water, no matter where they are stationed.  They also wish they could bring in enough water to shower in rather than trust the local source.  It's such a shame that those reservations have been dumped on for centuries.  I have no proof but also no doubt that there are many base housing/work exposure cases of ms and other chronic diseases.

Woodland hills was a base housing project built on top of AF Landfills, with disastrous consequences.  Here's the fact sheet on it if you are interested in the history of this particular mess -

The passage of this amendment was absolutely great news!  and thanks to both of you for serving- even family members serve when the other partner is in the military.

That is good news!! My husband was in Air Force for 23 yrs.

I have said numerous times that My MS is related to all the chemicals

That we're sprayed on base housing areas, the jet fuel that was on my hubbies uniform, & other chemicals & fumes that were always on & around the bases.

Glad the vets are getting help

That is great news!  I received a flyer from the VA Center of Excellence for MS today in the mail.  They will be having a lecture in August about 90 miles from where I'm located here in Montana, don't think I will be able to make it.  :(
