Copaxone and other Class B drugs During Pregnancy

My husband and I are thinking about getting pregnant again. My Neurologist suggested I look in to taking Copaxone during the pregnancy to help cut down on the chance of relapse while trying to get pregnant and right after giving birth. Of course all the official documentation says don't take it, There is nothing but animal studies and human experience that suggests no negative effects for mom or baby. I am also on Oxybutonin for bladder control another Class B Drug.

I was just wondering if any one had taken any thing while being pregnant. If so what your experience was and what Meds you took.

Any information is appreciated, Thank you.

Thank you both for your answers and Information. I am leaning away from taking the meds while trying and pregnant. I just needed some information about what it is was like to do it either way.

As far as being protected while pregnant. My doc said its possible to relapse in the first trimester as the second and third are the most protective.

This a good question to ask the FDA. They have a physician assigned to every drug. Go to their site and look up the drug history. You can call them on the phone and ask for the FDA physician assigned to the drug, but be aware they have little time and expect you to be familiar with the material they have on that drug approval. It is better to e-mail them.

I went without a DMD while pregnant. I had an allergy to Copaxone anyway, and all the other drugs are even less safe.

With estrogen in your body, you'll be flare-free during the pregnancy. I felt the best I've felt while pregnant - not symptomatic at all. It's after the pregnancy that you run the risk of having a relapse. They gave me IV steroids at birth, just in case. I took oral steroids at 6 weeks, and I'll take more at 12 weeks.
