Confusion on being confused...i think..ugh

I am so confused right now..i know im typing on the computer ..i know what im saying..sort of...but my thoughts are so mashed together they are creamier than mashed potatoes. Its not all the time just sometimes i find myself..well i just need a zipper for my mouth

I get two kinds of confusion sometimes together sometimes seperate. Confusion one - I forget words..i dont remember words and cant seem to talk because i forget them. At this point i just shut up and nod my head yes or no. Because if i dont..ill do what i did two days ago and tried to talk to my grandmothers nurse at the hospital and stood there for a good 5 minutes trying remember the word IV and beeping and i was a CNA ..so that just makes it so much better (wink wink). Needless to say the nurses just stared at me like i was an extinct form of animal. My husband has figured this out and will ask me only yes or no questions till i seem to get..unconfused ( i also get those blank stares trying to remember words and will say a word that remotely relates to it just to get something out)

Confusion two (which i sorta have now) is my brain cant seem to process things right. My thoughts run together and when im reading something or intaking any sort of message i seem to not understand most of it and run with what i do understand and then i talk and talk about what i think i understand ...which confuses me more and then at the end of it all..i just sound like on completely rambling idiot. like now..im sure

I guess im feeling kinda stupid as it just happened to me and i felt that id post about it with some embarressing laugh offs ...i hate this confusion so much! anyone else?

Inny, your really really not alone with this one, as jen said its quite common. I did try to find MS research on the subject but didn't really find anything of any substance. Cog fog, depression causation of cognitive issue, executive dysfunctions but not really anything that highlighted this as a common and vital MS symptom. MS community groups talk about it and many many MSers are seeking help for cognitive issues but the research either isn't there or i've just not been able to find it yet, though i am still looking.

Cheers.........JJ

I also slur my words and have delayed responses. Im a talker too (so much in fact that my mom and grandma nicknamed me Connie Chung when i was younger) ...so for what i loose..i guess you can add this to the list.

Thank you so much for your wonderful responses and support. I have had days where i am in the middle of doing something and actually forget ...while im doing it..and then i sit there and wonder what i was doing and why i was doing it. I also forget what to do or where things go. My husband and i went grocery shopping and we came home and our routine is he brings the things in from the car and i unload. He told me later he found plastic wrap and paper bags and stuff in the fridge and hot dogs in the pantry. Not only do i not remember doing this but dang it! I should know better than to put plastic wrap in the fridge and hot dogs in the pantry! I almost feel like im going to be diagnosed with dementia with the way im going (mind you it doesnt run in my family im just being dramatic.)

Thanks again, at least im not alone,

Inny

Cognitive impairment, especially problems with formulating thoughts and vocabulary, are quite common.  I spent two years like that - just awful.  Aricept helped a lot, although I still occasionally have to stop down and get 'unconfused.'

You can add me to that list....I am so bad.  Like someone said, I just need to stop talking at times, which is difficult because I am a talker.  And lately it has been worse.

I am, of course, typing too and making mistakes everywhere too. i do have to edit though.

It is always worse when I am tired or sick.

I completly understand. I have the same problem. The loss of words is a killer, my family now finishes what I was trying to say and for the most part they get it right lol.

I also have the problem of deleayed response. I am not sure if you have this problem. My son will ask me something and it will take me a few minutes to respond. I hear him ask I just can't answer at the moment.

Then I have the lost confusion where I am completely lost in my own world. Like today I am typing on the computer and I can't spell a darn thing. I know what I want to say but my mind is telling my fingers to put something else.

Anyway I have been trying to type this for over an hour so I will leave it at that.

Good Luck

Hey Inny,

I know so well what your talking about, the loss of my communication and my intelligence use to be on the top of my list of things. It still is in the top 5 but it's winter over here and it's not as bad at the moment. In summer i also seem to stutter or slurr my words a lot, just to add to the fun i'm already having, NOT!

I worked out that i can't walk and talk at the same time, even basic multi tasking makes cognition worse, throw in escalating fatigue and i do a pretty good impersonation of a drunkard lol! When the tremor gets going too, then i look and sound like someone going through drug withdrawl, though I haven't had any of the fun, doh!

Be easy on your self as soon as you notice thinks slipping, cool your self down, rest and recoup as soon as you can and you will probably notice an improvement.

Cheers.....JJ
