How do you pick a medication with the horrible side effects they have?

I was diagnosed  with MS when I was 21.  I had 3 children and felt wonderful while I was pregnant.  No relapses till after they were born.   My latest MRI shows new lesions in my brain and my thoracic spinal column. They want me to start medication.  I don't know how to pick the best of the worst.  The side effects are horrifying.  My symptoms are dragging of my foot at times, neuropathy in my legs, fatigue and headaches. I am scared!
