Leg spasms during sleep?

I've been waking up most mornings lately with hip & leg pain. I have a good matress (Tempur-pedic) so I'm hoping I don't need to buy a new one.

The other morning while I was halfway between asleep & awake, I could feel my leg muscles tightening and then relaxing. It was baffling and it didn't feel like I was consciously doing it.

Is it possible that I do this in my sleep and that's what causing my pain? I've been on Tecfidera for almost two weeks but as far as I know this isn't a known side effect.

Thanks for any input!

do you take any meds for spasms?  those would help possibly, like baclofen/neurontin combo...

Could be muscle pain. Lately I've had problems with muscle twitches when I go to sleep - painless but annoying - and a few times I've woken in the morning with the muscles still twitching, so I guess they go all night. Always the same areas (although the twitches move around the muscle a bit) - left hamstring and left foot, and right foot.

Some nights and mornings I wake with a sharp ache in these muscles - not quite a cramp, but almost on the edge of one. My partner also commented a couple of times how tight my hamstring is, when he's helpfully gone to massage it when I've woken and complained about the pain.

I'm not dx with MS, although I've had symptoms for years, and from what I've read it sounds like it could be the MS causing muscle spasms when you're asleep. The other alternative is that perhaps the pressure or weight of your blankets is 'irritating' your legs and causing pain. Years ago I had to sleep with a frame over the bed as the pressure on my feet (I had to change and sleep in my back after I got sick) would cause me a lot of pain in my legs.

Good luck, and I hope you find a solution.
