Little Mouse

In another post Heather wrote the following: "...(I) see what I think is a mouse running along the floor, out of the corner of my eye.  Of course, there is no mouse there.  Many people with MS will tell you about "the little mouse."

OH MY GOSH! I've had this for years and not told a soul for fear that people would think I was insane. (Sometimes I hear a phone ringing, or my name when I'm in the shower or blow-drying my hair as well.) I feel so much better knowing that other people experience this too.

Also, when I'm driving at night, sometimes I think I see something crossing the road ahead of me (like an animal), but there is never anything there.

Does anyone else experience this one? I'm really starting to be concerned about my mental state. I know that I'm an intelligent, logical, pragmatic person, but this is all a bit much. Just checking to see if I need to see a psych...

Speaking of hearing issues, when we were at the hospital with my son on Tuesday evening, a guy was brought in who needed all kinds of machines with bells and whistles.  One of them went off and I actually had to put my hands up to my ears.  The noise was unbearable!  Felt like someone was poking my eardrums out.  This was the first time something was actually so loud to me that I had to protect my ears.  Maybe it was just the pitch of the noise or something, I don't know.  However, I do turn the television down more often now that ever before.  Sometimes it seems so low that I'm thinking my husband may not be able to hear it, but I can't take the loudness as much anymore.  I also get ringing in my ears.  Ahhhh, such is life.

Thank you all for your prayers for my son.  We took him today to see his van.  What a crunched up mess.  The engine is back to the firewall.  Did learn one thing that Rob pictured differently right before the accident ... The girl who hit him DID hit him head-on.  He had been thinking that she was spinning, which she may have been, but he can't remember the actual hit.  He thought she hit him with the rear of her car (straight on), but her car was next to his at the auto place.  You could match the two of them up perfectly.  Hers is scrunched to the firewall as well.  Was quite emotional to see it all after the fact.  We continue to keep her in our prayers, as I've heard she had internal injuries and is still in the hospital.

Am going away for a few days.  Bear season.  Husband will be out hunting and I will be in our camper in the middle of the woods.  It's to snow each day while we're there ... should be beautiful.  First vacation I've been on it over 3 years.  Can't wait.  You all have a wonderful Thanksgiving if I don't get back to you before then.

Holiday Blessings,
   Lori

I must confess I don't see mice, rats, mooses, or any other criter. But I do get the preception of movement in the corner of my eye. As yet I have not been able to see what is moving.  I don't think I'll ever get use to it.

As for sounds, that is the one that really drives me crazy. With me I hear what sounds like a toilet seat being dropped or a door being slammed. I sure wish it was my name being called or a telephone.

OMG.  I honestly can't believe this many people have seen my pet mouse!!!  He lives here!  Must run quite a distance to visit ya'll. lol.  I went as far as to have my husband put a trap (we have the kind that catches them so we can put them outside, alive), behind the television because I swore it was living back there!  I am THRILLED that I'm not the only one with this.

I've also heard the phone (just today while in the shower) ringing, people calling my name, and have seen things in front of me.  I actually brake for leaves because I think they're alive, but most often than not there's not a thing where I've 'seen it'.

I'm not dx'd yet, but the more I read this stuff, the more I see myself in those of you who are.  This is too coincidental.  Just posted something about feeling a pain/burning in my scalp the last 2 days.  What's up with all these nutty things?  I bet we could all write a good book and teach the docs a few things!  lol.

Thanks for the giggle tonight.  I needed it.  HA ... it's not a mouse!  I'm amazed!  No wonder we couldn't catch it!

I'm so glad ladyC found this post.  It was so much fun laughing about the crazy things that happen to us, both the undx and the MSers!!

My mouse has taken a break for about a month, and I haven't missed him...hahaha

I also write down all my symptoms especially when a new one appears, but I must admit I haven't written this one down.  Just call me a chicken, but I'm not ready to be put in that jacket yet.....heeheehee  I figure I have enough symptoms and can bypass discussing my little mouse episodes.

At least we can all identify and know that either we are ALL crazy or there's something to this mouse thingy.  hahaha

I have never mentioned this to anyone either- for risk of them thinking that I am crazy.  I have had the mouse thing happen.  However, since I live on a farm, I just thought that I was being paranoid.  Sometimes at night I wake up because I think that I can actually feel that pesky rodent crawling across me in bed.  Have any you mentioned this to a doc?  I am not diagnosed, but am on an 'MS watch.'  I keep a journal of my weird symptoms to share with the doc. Should I add this or just set out some cheese and a trap?!
I have also been driving and slammed on my brakes to avoid an invisible deer.  We don't have moose around here, but that invisible sucker was big and I sure did not want to hit it!

Your description about hearing voices in showers rang a bell for me.

I've had the experience of blurred rushing sound that grows.  I hate that sound and for me it has an associated odor that I don't for the life of my know what it is.  It is also associated with a feeling almost of vertigo and dissociation.

I've had it from time to time, since I was a kid.  Never told anyone about that!  It is too weird even to mention....

Maybe I've been nuts since way back. :)  Nothing new!

I also have mild-moderate hearing loss on one side and moderate on the other..... Should get it tested again soon to see if it has progressed at all.  Thanks for the reminder.  The last neuro was transiently concerned with the hearing stuff, and then I think she forgot about it. And it was never mentioned again.

We are an entertaining bunch!

I just want to know if anyone has actually asked their neuro about these things we see/hear?  I have not mentioned a lot of things to my neuro that have come up on this site for fear of either one of them thinking I am nuts!

I have had a problem with voices for a looong time, however, the neuro's knocked it up to being aura's related to my seizures.  I remember being in Grade 11 and the voices started while I was in the shower and it sounded as though a huge crowd of people were closing in on me and the voices getting louder as they got closer.  I told my mom at that time that I was hearing strange voices in the shower and she responded with, don't be so foolish, there is no such thing and don't tell anyone else about this either, they will put you in the loonie bin!  ha ha ha

I didn't have any actual grand mal seizures until about 1991 but who knows, I could have been having petit mal seizures for years without anyone really noticing or just ignoring it??? Who Knows???

Back in Sept./Oct./Nov. when I was really having problems with muscle spasms, double vision, muscle weakness, neuropathic pain etc. I was seeing the elusive mouse on a regular basis but I didn't mention anything to my neuro about it.  I knew that I didn't have a mouse in my house because I have a terrier cross dog and if there had really been one there, she would have nabbed it!

Is there anything to be said for this as a symptom and should we be telling our neuro's about it?  Just wondering???

Just leave it to Cowboy & Quix to out do us all!!!  Moose, huh?  Well, thank goodness I only have a few mice...ha...ha....ha....

Glad you all talked about the hearing things too, first time I've heard any of you mention that one.  I was keeping the hearing things to myself cause I just figured you would all kick me straight off of here, and know I had finally gone off the deep end...ha

I guess we are just a bunch of crazies seeing and hearing things, but at least we have each other to laugh about it with!!

Hang on...........................oh heck, Heather, thought I could catch your little mouse but she's too quick for me!!  I'll keep trying!!

Hope all of you have a great day - mouse, moose, kitty, etc sightings and all.

Ha!  Finally I know what it is!  It's a moose!  No mice for me.  I was thinking it could have been a yeti, or some wierd Filipino creature.... they have some folklaw creatures here that would fit the bill!

Someone has been importing Moose to Philippines and they've been playing games with me.

Cowboy you're brilliant!   Thanks.

Ok guys, I think we have all seen ghosts, moose, cats, mouse and ferrets, meaning we are not crazy, but at the same time, some people still think we are, so let them think that we are.  Even though we know MS is not a joke, things like these may sound funny to those that do not know about our condition, h***, it even sounds funny to us.

I have heard my name called so many times that when someone calls me now, sometimes I do not answer because I just think that it is just in my mind, but it is a real person calling, weird hah????

When things like these happen and I am around friends I always take the easy way out, I tell everyone blame it on the MS, clever!!!!!

Remember we have MS, but MS does not have us!!!!!

Quix good luck with your 3 day treatment and once you are done with it, keep us posted on the outcome.

Big ((((((((HUGS))))))))))to all,

Zulma

I'm with Cowboy, I see big hulking things shift in my far peipheral vision.  None of this wimpy mouse stuff!  I think it is the same guy sneaking around the house who sneaks in and beats you up at night.  You know, the guy that turns your car radio up so loud that you jump out of your skin in the morning when you start the car.

About your mouse, please come get it.  It's leaving little t****...uh....calling cards in my sister's car!   If you can't control your hallucinations we'll find someone who can.

I frequently have the auditory memory (okay, hallucination) of someone speaking my name - very clearly.  But that goes back years.

I have seen the mouse, except in my mind, it was a ferret (don't ask). It has run across my bedroom floor thrice in a single week (last week). Today, it moved across the passenger floorboard of my minivan as I drove. I was convinced I had seen something, so when I parked, I dove into the floorboard to see if I could find *anything* that it might have been. I couldn't. A man walking by my car at that moment gave me a very strange look.

Yes, I know, I was quite relieved when I read Heather's post as I thought I was losing was little mind I had left.

I am undx, but started have eye problems 2003/2004 and this year they have been much worse and happened more frequently.  I have the "mouse thing" happen everyday and it is really weird.  It is comforting to know that I am not the only one who experiences this.

My brain fog has been so bad these last two weeks I don't think a psych could even decipher what I would say.  Probably just put me in a straight jacket and send me away!  ha.....ha....ha....

Take care and if you feel you need to talk to someone, don't hesitate.
