I have been taking amitriptyline since November 2015 and still have this horrible tainted taste. I too try to eat anything that will take it away. I am a huge salad lover but cannot stand it at the moment as it tastes wrong. I am on a dose of 75mg nightly for depression, nerve pain and sleep.
I am contemplating changing medication as this tainted taste is driving me crazy! Nothing gets rid of it. I'm drinking at least 2L of water over s 24hr period for dry mouth too.
Amitriptyline is used for depression, chronic pain, sometimes headaches, and sleep so I would think its a good choice for some folks with MS. With some meds with bad taste it helps to swallow it in a huge gump of applesauce instead of water. Prednisone leaves a bad taste for me for hours and when I use applesauce I dont notice it.

I had been on amitriptyline since March to help me sleep and for nerve pain. I was only on 10m.g and it certainly helped. I found I had a dry mouth and needed to drink more water in the day than usual. I have just very slowly come off it as I feel it made me put on weight.
However I have only been off it for a few days and am aware that I am not sleeping so well so am reserving judgment about whether I need to remain on it. My Consultant was happy for me to work out for myself what I need and he did say that I could just take it now and then if I needed a good night's sleep.

Daisy.girl - I am takingit for pain and the idea being it will help me sleep, whichit does to some degree. But I still get woken some nights by cramp.
Dawnym - thanks I keep going, I'm not groggy in the morning, infact with all the drugs I have been given my body has adapted well it normally only take 48 hours of feeling a bit odd and then I'm fine (may this is the same reason as they are having little effect too.)
I must stop eating though!
Hi there... I take the same at 10mg low dose for pain... Plus I take it at night to help fall asleep... I was prescribed this for pain... Have muscle spasm like pain through my back, legs arms and neck... Dx fibromyalgia.. The taste does get better over time so hang tight... And i take it like 3 hours before bed or I will be groggy in the morning...
I don't have the answer to your question, however, I am wondering if you are taking this for depression or for sleep?
I recently had a sleep study and that doc wants me to take amitripyline as a sleep aid at night...not sure of the dose, he did say that it would be a lower dose then is used for depression?
