MRI Results Confusion

I had an MRI performed yesterday and these were the findings. It makes no sense to me and my internet searches are reflecting the fact that I don't have a degree in medicine.  Any help would be appreciated.

REPORT START - Note: I added the stuff in the parenthesis just for clarification of why I had the MRI to begin with.

Cerebral MRI performed with and without contrast enhancement:

Loss of balance and coordination. (I fall over if I stand with my feet together, I wobble or fall backwards if I close my eyes while standing, I can barely manage to squat, can't walk heel to toe, can't stand on one foot, headaches, ringing ears, light sensitivity, problems swallowing, etc)

Standard adult head protocol was utilized. 9 cc of Gadavist were administered intravenously.

No evidence of ventricular enlargement, recent infarction, intracranial hemorrhage or mass is identified. A small enhancing developmental venous anomaly is observed within the posterior aspect of the left cerebellum on the postcontrast T1-weighted sequences.

On the FLAIR/T2 weighted axial sequences, a punctate focus of low-grade signal hyperintensity is observed within the left frontal subcortical white matter, consistent with a focus of nonspecific gliosis.

Findings consistent with a small cavum septum pellucidum/cavum vergae cyst are incidentally noted.

Minimal mucosal thickening is present within the lower portions of both maxillary sinuses and within scattered ethmoid sinuses. The paranasal sinuses are otherwise clear.

An 8mm Thornwaldt cyst is incidentally noted within the posterior nasopharynx.

END REPORT:

Can anyone help me out with what this actually means? Thank you in advance.

We’d love to help, and we’ll certainly try. (And Bubbles_04 is off to a fine start!) However, very few of the people who write on this site or other internet sites have a degree in medicine. The ones that do have such degrees, in most cases if they were any good at what they do, they’d be in the office practicing instead of writing on the internet. Dr. Google may simply add to your anxiety making think your prognosis is worse than it is. Even if Dr. Google is right, he/she can’t write a prescription for you.

All I can tell you is that very little of your MRI verbage sounds like anything like mine. The symptoms could point to MS, but MS has many mimics. Please sit down with a neurologist (not simply your general practicioner), who can explain the MRI, give you additional testing, and hopefully offer some treatment for your symptoms while you wait. The road to diagnosis for MS or anything can be long and frustrating; vent here anytime because most of us have been through it!

Hi There!

So I read the MRI report and this is what I think:-

You have one or two cysts (Thornwaldt cyst included) (unrelated to MS or demyelinating disease). Normally these are relatively harmless and you shouldn't even notice them. However I did read in some rare cases they can cause dizziness and pain.

Then there is the developmental venous anomaly (DVA). This is a small "bunch" of blood vessels. This is normally harmless. I read that Dr's tend to find them when looking for something else. No treatment so dont worry about that too much :)

Then the last thing I see is the "a punctate focus of low-grade signal hyperintensity" - this could be related to a demyelinating disease.

Did you have any other tests done? When are you seeing the Dr next? I think the best thing to do is try not to worry and wait for your Dr appointment. Your Dr will understand whats going on better than me :)
