I have Hashimotos thyroiditis and possible MS. I also have connective tissue disease. Its very hard to live with being this sick. But, if you listen to your body, and follow its needs, there is some relief.

with graves disease they can give you a iodine radiation pill. this pill destroys( slows down the thyroid) then you have to take medication the rest of your life this medication controls the  or replaces the thyroid.  I have this option right now. I had graves disease for a long time. then I change my doctor and told  all the symptoms I had they did blood work and notice the t3 and t4 high. sent me for test. I did the one where this machine takes pictures. before the pictures of the thyroid they gave me small amount of idiom radiation pill. that is how I was diagnosed. was on medication for about 2 years went into remittion but came back. I have the option of killing my thyroid with large dose of idiom radiation I did not return until 2 years later and the first time it was attacking my heart making it beat faster. now I am looking at all the symptons of ms and I have 9 out of 10 going to need to talk to my doctor.

graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.

I am new to any kind of message boards but I'm finding I am getting sick of being sick and I think starting and/or participating in some of these forums may be helpful for me. I don't even know where to begin with my health but this one discussion for my attention as I was just diagnosed with Graves' disease after nearly losing my life with a misdiagnosis at the hospital. Three visits to the ER and then finally it was my pain doctor who finally sent me to the ER again this time with a letter telling them I was not a "mental health patient, but instead I was in thyroid storm."  I have also for the last four years been battling chronic back, leg, neck, arms while body pain. Some localized some not. I've had a bunch of MRI's done and most recently a brain MRI. I am not able to understand the report until I see my GP who will go over it with me. However from what I can maybe evaluate, I may have Lyme disease or MS, or something for sure. So here's hoping these forums will prove helpful and supportive for me. It seems like from my lurking around here now and then that everyone is so friendly and helpful to others. May you all have a good day!

Hi Kjleedy,
I was diagnosed with Graves Disease when I was 28 years old.....then diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was 33 years old......then diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis ( another Autoimmune Disease) when I turned 51 years of age. My endrocrin Dr told me that there are several Autoimmune Diseases that Cluster together.....Graves, UC and Diabetes......she has kept such a close eye on me. She has had me on meds that give me T4 and T3. I find that when my thyroid levels (TSH) is around 1 I do better. and she thinks women should be around that number. I had on Dec 8th, 2010 Liberation Therapy for my MS.go to CCSVIAlliance.org  to see what this is. I feel really well since my angioplasty. feel free to write me back with questions.

Wow, I was going through these archives and I found this topic. I have graves disease, and i am experiencing MS symptoms. I was told by my Endocrinologist that it is very possible to get two autoimmune diseases.

I would love to chat more on this if anyone is still interested.
Thanks, Pamela

There are many people with multiple autoimmune diseases. As my Rhuemy told me, the only real difference between the autoimmune diseases is the part of the body that is being attacked so once you have one you are open to others. I know it is hard but hang in there! Just remember that everyone is here for you if you need to vent

I know a woman with both MS and hyperthyroid disease.  Unfortunately, having one disease gives no protection against having others.  I have even read a place or two that having one auto-immune disease will make it MORE likely to have a second.  I guess if the immune system is wacky, it's multi-task wacky.

I do not have graves disease. But I have been diagnosed with MS and I have auto immune hypothyroid disease. (hashimotos) I believe is what its called. My thyroid is underactive. I believe with graves it is overactive.
