MS worries

Hi

I've never done this before.  I'm worried about myself after 4 months of varied symptoms.

It first started with a severe case of scarletina (supposedly mild form of scarlet fever)....couldn't move with it and swollen glands, very sore throat.  Never really recovered from it since then.  After a couple of weeks felt much better than did but not great.  Then was admitted to hospital with racing heart rate and pain with protruding veins in left arm.  Had ECG and other tests but nothing found.  Was asked to come back to outpatient appt at hospital and was diagnosed with post viral syndrome - was fatigued and having general aches and pains.

Also had suspected swine flu and had tamiflu.

Since then have had blood tests including CRP, chest xray.  All normal.  Recently had severe headaches in right side head.  Pain from groin down left leg with tingling feeling.  Get pins and needles in hands and fingers and also in face (including tip of nose and lips!)  .I had pins and needles in hands when had scarletina too.

Is it possible that these could be symptoms of MS?  My symptoms seem so varied and I'm not confident that a diagnosis of Post Viral Syndrome is sufficient.

I've been asked to go for CT scan on head because of headaches.  Would this and CRP blood test highlight/point to MS if it is the problem?

thanks for your help

thanks for your reply.

I've been back to the doc today and been told also got superficial thrombophlebitis in my leg.  Not seen a neurologist just a doc in hospital in rapid access clinic...there's such a range of symptoms I have.

will let you know anyway

Hey there, Georgiegirl. I'm no doctor, but from what I've learned, post-viral syndrome can be very nasty, and can cause a lot of symptoms such as those you describe. Don't be quick to dismiss it as the reason for your current problems.

If you want to investigate MS, the imaging you need is MRIs. CT scans will not show MS lesions. There are many other kinds of tests to rule in/out MS as well. Are you seeing a neurologist?

Nevertheless, considering how sick you were originally, I'm betting you're still dealing with the virus thing. Please let us know what develops.
