Made it through another day...barely

Today was the roughest day of them all with the infusions. I'm just actually happy I made it at all.

I arrived before my appointment time so that I could stop at the PTSD clinic to give them a heads up that I may be a few minutes late as my Infusion appointment was for 10 and take 3 hours with ,my PTSD clinic appointment at 1.

So then I check in but they don't do my vitals and set up the IV until almost 11Am. My glucose is at 246 and the only thing I have had was a cup of coffee at home with only 1g of carbs since my dinner last night. After dinner it had dropped to 202 so my body must be dumping sugar into my blood stream.

Since it was so late with the start of the infusion I told the nurse that I had the 1PM appointment with the PTSD Clinic and she said she would contact them to make arrangements for me to get there. She also told me that the Nurse in the Neurology clinic was seeing about getting me an RX for my glucose which has been out of control since the start of the infusions. Finally around 12:30 another nurse came in and after a short but loud confrontation with her she ended up unhooking me from the IV so that I could get to my appointment. Their idea of dealing with that appointment was that I was just going to not get there at all. It also didn't help that for those 3+ hours I was stuck in the room with an African American man which is one of my MAJOR triggers for my PTSD so I had been in a constant state of panic the whole time.

I did make it to my PTSD appointment, though a few minutes late, and was impressed that the one doctor from the previous week greeted me by name as I entered the room. It turns out that she will be my doctor for the PTSD treatment and I find it fairly easy to talk with her. She wants me to come in 2 times a week for sessions with her starting next week since I don't really fit in very good with any single type of therapy. So I'll be getting dual therapies. Figures again I'm unusual. :)

Once I got through there I checked back with the nurses were I got the infusion therapy to see if I was going to get an RX for my glucose. I was told NO, they were checking with my PCP to see if I needed anything and if I did I would get a call from them. DUH! I've already had one cardiac event due to glucose levels and have consistent reading from 366 to 151 since I started the infusions. Why in the world would they think I might not need something at least in the short term to control my glucose?  So I get to spend at least one my night being paranoid about eating anything at all.

Oh I had no trouble sleeping last night at all. Went to bed just before 11PM and didn't move an inch until the alarm went off at 6AM. I've never slept like that in years when I have had to get up early for an appointment. Probably due to pure exhaustion from the night before when I didn't get any sleep at all.

HI Dennis,

Don't worry about the glucose readings for now...  They are only due to the IVSM, and will come down on their own.  Just be careful what you eat, so that you don't add to the problem.  I'm really glad that the PTSD sessions are going okay, and that they found a form of therapy you can tolerate.
