Movement disorder

Today I got appointment notices from the VA. I guess I did a lot worse than I thought during the Neuro exam on Wed. They have scheduled me for a MOVEMENT DISORDER appt in the Neuro clinic for Sept 23. I have no idea of what a movement disorder appt is like. Maybe someone here might know what it is? I have to try to figure out if I should have this re-scheduled as it is 1 week after my scheduled knee surgery (Sept 16). I assume I will still be on crutches on the 23rd.

Like Parkinson's or something? Do you have tremors?

Dennis,
I wouldn't count on driving just one week after your knee surgery ... how about you call them and discuss the scheduling AND ask them what this test is for?

I'm not sure what the appt will be like, but I have a movement disorder and they just looked at me and it was like a Neuro exam... but I don't know if there are special tests or equipment for this..

let us know how it goes and good luck with the surgery

take care

I do get tremors at times but they happen when I am trying to move my arms (like lifting something or steading myself with a hand on something). I suspect this has more to do with how bad I did with walking heal to toe, lift up on heals, and the like.

If it was my right knee then I am sure I wouldn't be able to drive. I am sure I will be driving the day after the surgery. When I have had this same surgery before I was driving the next day. My pickup has a bench seat so I'll be able to get in and out of the drivers seat fairly easily and I don't use my left leg to drive.

Unlike civilian doctors you can't call to talk with someone about what will happen on a test. You just get the people who schedule appts and they just know how long things take so they can work out the scheduling of appts. I guess when I go in for the surgery I'll talk with the Ortho about this appt. and let him decide if it should be re-scheduled. (Assuming I remember :) ).
