New Neuro -- an MS specialist or not?

I'm in the market for a new neuro -- my doc of 12 years has gone around the cognitive bend.  So which do I choose?  An MS Specialist?  Or what?

I'm going to ask two doctors I trust my facial pain specialist (who tried to warn me about my existing neuro) and my internist for recommendations.

I've also gotten a list from the National MS Society chapter in my area.

Just wondered how to interview a new doc?

Thanks!

Neurologists do specialize. I was sent to one who was leaving town to look for MS. She turned out to be a headache specialist and negated every test which pointed to MS and only wanted to treat headaches. Every MS Specialist I have seen really do know about MS. I did have a doctor look into the first one. The second who I have now, I heard speak at an MS Society lecture. I was so impressed I decided to switch specialists.

Neurologists are a cerebral breed in general it comes with their training. They can be kinda prickly if if you go in and ask a lot of questions at first. I usually let them do their thing then I ask questions.

This is just my opinion...but I don't really think it matters if a neuro calls themselves an MS specialist. I've heard stories of MS Specialists who seem to know next to nothing about MS.

I think your idea of asking your 2 doctors that you trust is a great one! Or, if you know anyone with MS, maybe they can recommend their neuro?
