Night Vision loss in one eye

OK, I need the help of this very smart community.  I have been having eye pain for 2 day in my left eye - which is my affected side.

Then last night I was reading my phone in the dark and I noticed that I was closing my left eye.  I do this alot I think to make things less blurry and double.  Anyways, when I opened it the screen was WAY brighter.  I closed my right eye and the screen was like looking at a light bulb - it hurt to look at it and I couldn't read anything.  When I closed my left eye it became way dimmer and looked about right to read.

I thought that weird but kept reading.  Then I turned it off to go to sleep.  I immediately felt like I had closed my right eye.  It was totally black!  I kind of freaked out and actually checked if my eye was closed (it was not).  I worried about maybe actually having lose sight in my right eye.  I got up to go look in the light.

In the light it still looked all foggy for awhile. When I got to the bathroom I looked in the mirror through my left eye and I was kind of normal/greenish looking.  Then I looked through my right eye and it was as if I had a red filter over my eye.

Any ideas?  I am currently in the middle of an attack (left side).

Hi Corina,

I'm in Canada too!

When I had symptoms of Optic Neuritis (before anyone suspected MS) I went to the emergency room and they set up an appointment with a opthomologist that day and I saw the neuro opthomologist about a month later.

They can tell if your optic nerve has been damaged as it leaves lasting damage which they can see (or should be able to... it may depend on the severity).

Let me know how you get on!

Mummy76:  I asked my regular doctor about it and he said it's from the MS!  No kidding....anyways he referred me to a regular opthomologist.  I don't know if we have  a neuro one where I live.  But...do to health care in Canada being the way it is I"ll probably have to wait a looooonnnnngggg time.  Do you know if they can tell anything after the fact?

Sllowe:  I had 5 days of IV steroids at Christmas, and then 2 weeks of pills a couple of weeks later.

This attack has been since Dec. 23.  I thought they were only suppose to last a couple of weeks?  I don't think I can just call the neuro, but I'll see what I can do.  Its feeling a little better today.  But anything with my eyes kind of freaks me out!

Thanks for your replies,

Corina

CC,

Are you on anything for this attack? Definitely call the neuro, and let them know. Could be ON and should be documented. You need your vision!

Hi,  I haven't experienced this myself but am very familiary with optic neuritis.  I strongly suggest getting to your neurologist and having him/her get you in to see a neuro-opthomologist asap so they can see what's going on.  Good luck.
