TROUBLE TALKING.COG PROBLEMS

Hi All,

I'm in the searching stage right now.  Gave an MRI end of month.  Anyone find, that besides having cog problems, they are stuttering, and maybe have the word there but can't say what you are trying to say?
Anyone find that when they are typing on the computer, they type words backwards, or wrong even though you know how to spell it and know where the keys are but your brain just isn't picking it up correctly?  I'm not dislexic.  There all started happening recently, after the vertigo and ON,  memory problems etc. so it isn't a coincidence.  But, I guess I don't want to be alone in this.  I've been stuttttering  so much it's been contagious to my family.  Anyway, anyone else relate to any of this, espcially if you are dxed?    HELP!  Sandie   Thanks Guys!

I was diagnosed in 2007 with RRMS, and the only thing that the MRI showed (that counted) was a lesion in the right cerebellum.  They noticed several punctate hyperintensities, and white enhancement of the right ventricle, but the only thing that counted was that lesion in the cerebellum, because it was infratentorial (outside the tentorium, which is the skin that surrounds the brain.)

Hey jen
Are you dxed yet?
Gee  thanks everyone for all the info, and like experiences.  I thought I was imagining things but my hubby and daughter have said they've noticed it happening alot.  There are so many things going on right now, and this along with the gasping/siging thing I have going on throughout the day,...well lets just say my family has been very patient and wonderful.  Well it's good to know we aren't alone, and we all have each other and our families, if not our Dr's right.   Thanks Guys!   You'll never guess how that sentence just typed out! I typed Thanks Guts, instead of Guys!  Oh well!  Sandie

Yup, you're not alone!

I feel like I'm dyslexic when I'm typing - I'm always inverting the letters, or typing the wrong word.  When I speak, often I can't think of the word I want, but I'll come up with other words in the same category - instead of refrigerator, I'll say stove.  This used to be really bad - to the point where I didn't talk much at all because I stuttered so much or slurred my words, or just couldn't come up with anything to say.  I always try to make myself say the right word, because I figure I'm blazing new pathways in my brain - relearning the information and embedding it in a new neuron.

sure. lost some confidence in talking some years back. what my mind/thoughts have in stroe to say, and what i can get out of my mouth, sometimes just are not the same.

then there are the times where my mind can see the word but i just cannot get it out.

some days are better than others in this regard.

Hi,

I am still in the test stages as well.  I too have a terrrible time trying to speak and make since.  I  have a horrible time with my typing and spelling although this was never a problem before.  I cannot spell "you" without redoing it.  Of course, that is just one of many issues.

I now have duct tape with a note on my washing maching...I flip it over when I have added the softner as I will just keep re-washing the same load.  My husband has started putting notes up all over the house.

I have always been regemented and that helps some, as I am use to doing everything in a pattern.  But lately that has even failed me.

Today I tried to make coffee twice and kept dumping the coffee in without the basket.  After the third try my husband told me to go sit down and he made the coffee.

Not only are these things flusterating but they really make me feel like an idiot, and I get mad at myself.  I have found that unlike some of the other problems I have, this one does not go away anymore

You are definitely not alone!  I'm not officially diagnosed, just "probable MS"  (just!  took me 20 months of searching to reach this point!) right now, but I'll most likely be starting treatment soon.

I have trouble finding words fairly often; have to really reach.  I know what i want to say, but can't grab the word, try fumbling for explanations of what i'm trying to say, or for a substitute word.

Typing has been weird with me; I've been touch-typing for many years, excellent spelling, and so on.  When my neurological stuff really acted up, I found that my fingers didn't find the keys in order, I'd sometimes put the last letter of one word on the front of the next word, and misspell things.  Arrrgghh!!  Sign my name Ktahy instead of Kathy,

Weird thing; I tried closing my eyes and typing, and typed a few sentences perfectly.  That was many months ago, haven't tried it lately.  Let me see, can I type things perfectly with my eyes closed?  Well, that sentence came out OK.  I've just gotten used to going back and correcting things.

Try the eyes-closed thing, just for the heck of it.  I'd be interested to see if there's some interference at the vision level, or if that was jsut me, lol!

Take care,

kathy

I sometimes mix words up. Last night I was trying to say 'chair' and I couldn't think of it and I said 'room' or something else instead but it came to me after a couple of seconds. I've also noticed my typing is becoming horrible. Thank God for spell-check!

Im not dx but i know what your talking about, with my last episode i was unable to speak as i normally do. THe words where just coming out wrong, slurrring and stuttering and i had lost ALL nouns. I havent had the typing backwards, but i have lost my prior spelling ability though and during the episode i found i was constantly adding the letter T to words, just inserted some where no ryme no reason. I could put that down to action tremors though, my hand was taken over by an alien at the time, it certainly had a mind of its own.

I can now talk pretty much as I normally do, still have a bit of difficulty with punctuation and word finding but its 90% normal. Remember not to stress whilst its happening, as soon as you connect that your stuttering, stop talking, take a breath and continue as if nothing happened, it does help you get through it better. The other thing is to have a laugh it takes the stress off your shoulders a little.

Cheers.......JJ
