OT - Grand daughter in hospital

I just got some distrubing news from my ex. My new grand daughter is in the hospital and will be for a few days. Seems she has some sort of bad intestinal infection going on and is on IV of some sort. She is less than 3 months old and they had a very hard time getting the IV started due to her small size. That is about all I know at this time.

I am trying to not freak out over this as it sounds like everything is under control. But it is bringing up memories of the death of my son at 6 weeks of age. So I am really freaking out even though I don't want to.

I'll add my prayers.

Remember that tiny babies can get dehydrated very easily and would need rehydration much sooner than an adult would.  In addition, young infants don't have the immunity that older children and adults do, so they are taking her infection seriously, and treating her.  I'm sure Quix could say more, but, even though you don't have all the details, it sounds like they are treating her illness.  That's a good thing!

Let us know how she is doing.

Thanks for all of your prayers and good thoughts,

I just got an update, actually it was a message that was sent the other day that facebook bounced so I didn't get it until now.

This illness started over the weekend. Daphne had green BM but otherwise seemed fine. Her doctors did a lot of tests including a LP with everything coming back normal.

But then yesterdayevening  it turned into bloody diareha at which point she was rushed to U Mass childrens hospital by ambalence which is a good 3 hours from where my daughter lives. Late last nigth the doctor got back some culture from the day before that were positive but I have no idea of what they were of.

I have never heard of anything like this before so it has me freaking out even more.

Quix if you read this would you have any ideas as to what they might be dealing with?

Dennis,

Your granddaughter, and your entire family, are in my thoughts and prayers.
The "unknown" is the most difficult evil, any of us face.

But the known is, that she is in God's hands, and He will shield and protect her from harm, and He will give the doctors, nurses, technicians, etc. the knowledge they need to heal her.

I can tell you, that it's very common for newborns to return to the hospital, for one reason or another, and the hospitals are well prepared for this possibility.

Take care and God bless,

Socrates
