OT - Music lovers

I just wanted to share with you that I had the most amazing uplifting experience yesterday by doing something that I love. I joined a local large choir for a one off singing workshop run by a very well respected musical director. We spent the day learning and singing through Mendelssohn's "Elijah".  In the evening we performed most of the work and it was just fantastic. I was asked with a few others to sing the soprano solo bit where the music splits into 8 parts and this was quite challenging as we only practised it once but it went Ok.

My Mum, bless her, came to listen in the evening and singing this music was one of those moments where I felt entirely at peace and at the same time excited and completely moved spirtually.

So I shall continue to remind myself to live in the moment and to live my life enjoying my passions.

Just one word to sum up the experience      "AWESOME"

Love, hugs and reminding you all to enjoy whatever music gives you pleasure..it can reach a part of you inside that pushes that big happy button.

Sarah x :)

Sarah,  WOW, that really sounds like a blast.  How fun!  Congratulations on the soprano bit above the octet.  That is even more fun!  Singing releases endorphins which of course act as a natural pain-killer.  Singing that kind of harmony is heavenly.

I am delighted for you Sarah---it's great to hear such good news.

Sending songs your way!

Sarah, your post reminds me of something I just saw advertised last week ....
there will be special sing-along viewings of The Sound of Music at theaters in the US in  a few weeks.

I can't imagine anything much more joyful than sitting with total strangers and singing My Favorite Things or Climb Every Mountain.   Even if it is a bit off-key.  LOL

There was a piece on Doctor Radio about the value of music in developing the personality of children. Singing in a choir or playing in a band makes us aware of others around us - we have to be attuned to them to make the music correctly.  For children, this forces them out of the egocentric "me, me, me- its all about me" to being concerned about the good of the group.

I imagine the same thoughts hold true for adults.   Thanks for sparking these ideas.... Lulu
