SSDI doc appt

hi folks,

As some of you know, I've applied for SSDI despite still being in limboland after more than two years of being sick and dysfunctional.

Well, I had my appointment yesterday with the doc the disability determination services folks ordered.

Compared with the independent medical exams I have had in the past for car insurance companies, this guy was a lot nicer and a lot more thorough. Definitely not chatty though.

He commented at the end that I had noticeably more weakness on my left side than my right, although both were rather weak. And he commented that although I looked tired at the start of the exam, when he finished 75 minutes later, he said my eyes were sunken and I looked exhausted.

And OMG, did he make me hurt!!! Sigh. I hurt in places I'd never noticed before, and he got my "normal" pain locales up to a higher degree than I've had in recent memory. And more than 24 hours later, I still can barely move around the house. :-(

I was embarrassed that I had trouble remembering who was president before Bush. I almost said Gore, but finally came up with Clinton. I counted slowly but correctly backwards by sevens from 100. But I could only remember one of the three words he told me to remember, which made me feel stupid.

I have no idea how I did. He claims he doesn't decide whether or not I'm disabled or able to work, he just reports his "findings" to the DDS folks.

I wish I had a caseworker I could call and tell how much pain I'm in just from that exam and how fatigued I am from it on top of my normal levels.

Thanks, you guys!

I appreciate the good wishes & thoughts.

Tammy: I will definitely hire a lawyer if/when I'm denied (and I assume I will be). Where are you in the SSDI application process? Good luck to you, too!!

I wish you well! I've been going through the same thing & pray you get it! If you are denied go ahead & get an attorney that specializes in SSDI. I pray you don't have to go that route but thought I'd better mention it in case! God bless you!! (HUGS)!!
