normal dose of Balcofen

My doctor is working me up to 40 mgs a day.  I thought 30 was the highest dose you could take.  Anyone  know?

I am up to 25 mgs right now.  I am having trouble with being sleepy but my lower back and behind my thighs and knees feel so much better.

I am going to wait a week and then go up to 30.  Or wait until I have worked through this fatigue side effect.

I know it will eventually wear off.

Thanks for the advice!

I am taking 15 -20 mg days and 15 mg seems to be my "sweet spot". I tried going to thirty but I was too sedated and ragdollish. 3 times a day, 6 am, 1 pm and 9 pm are my times. I will back off to 6 hour dosing adding in the extra 5 mg if I get super crampy. Maybe its my low weight that makes a lower dose ideal or just my sensitivity to medication. My neuro though did say to find the sweet spot and stay with it. I bet everyone's dose will be a bit different depending on their chemisty. She never gave me an upper limit as she knew I would never go there, but I read the dosing recommendations online anyways.

I found baclofen works WAY better than either lyrica or gabapentin especially for my nerve pain although that's not supposed to be what its for. What a huge relief. It also doesn't drop me like a stone when it wears off like the other drugs did and the nerve pain doesn't come roaring back.

I think the half life is 3-4 hours, so you are right that it doesn't stay in the system that long.that is why we take it several times a day.

Be sure too to let your family members know you are on this drug - if something happens to you,  you need to be withdrawn off of it slowly to prevent seizures (usually for doses higher than 30mg according to my neuro office),

drug.com gives these guidelines for baclofen.Note the 4x dosing for 80mg

Adult Dose for Muscle Spasm:

Oral: Initial dose: 5 mg orally 3 times a day for 3 days, then 10 mg orally 3 times a day for 3 days, then 15 mg orally 3 times a day for 3 days, then 20 mg orally 3 times a day.
Maintenance dose: 40-80 mg/day.
80 mg/day doses should be administered in 4 divided doses.

Thank you Lulu,
I thought 3 times a day would be most effective for me since I would forget if I did a 4 time a day!  It does not stay in the system very long does it?

he has me dosing three times a day - I take it first thing in the morning. then when I get home from work  and the final one at bedtime.  He did say that I could take more and sometimes I take one at work if my body feels like it isn't working right.    The most i have taken is 40mg in a day.

Ok thank you.  Do you take it twice a day or throughout the day.  The nurse told me to work up to 40 mg over the next two weeks and to let her know if it is not working.

My neuro told me that the absolutely max dose is 120mg. He started me on 30 mg (10mg three times a day).  and I have been given the ok to double up that amount without checking with him...that would put me at 60mg.

Sho is right that 80mg is usually the max you would see....

I'm taking 45. I think the highest regularly recommended dose is 80 mg/day, but a neuro once told me that some people take over 100--it all depends if you can tolerate it. I think I would be a complete zombie well before 100.
