I just lost it in the toy store =(

I just wanted to stop in real quick at a toy store to pick up my son a little gift, I knew it was going to be a challenge because of my vestibular problem.   Sure enough, literally, 10 minutes in,  with the crazy pattern carpet and the rows and towers of toys...I became so dizzy and nauseous, that I threw up!   It was so embarrassing and even more so...upsetting..just hits home how debilitating this dizziness and balance issue is.

And for a girl who likes to shop, my "world" is becoming smaller and smaller!

Struggling, wish I could just turn back time!  =(

I do feel for you Karen. I've had the vertigo / vestibular problems for 3.5 years now. It's hard to do many things people take for granted with these problems and the nausea and vomitying is just icing on the cake. I don't get an awful lot of actual vertigo these days rather more of a feeling of the world rocking but when the vertigo does hit well I can do nothing but lie down.

I hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Hugs,

Karry.

Thank you all!  I'm so sorry others have experienced it too, so disrupting and uncomfortable!

@Poppy, I didn't step foot into a store once this past Christmas season (outside of Target, where I can use a cart to help maintain my balance). I feel like I missed out on some of the holiday season by not being able to see the Christmas displays and all the hustle and bustle of shopping.  The Fed/Ex and UPS guys were my new best friends during the months of Nov/Dec!

@Barb, vertigo is even worse in my opinion...so sorry you deal with that!   I've had a couple of bouts of that over the years, absolutely miserable!

@ Alex, thank you for your encouragement and for sharing your experiences. You are right,  I shouldn't feel so responsible/bad for something that is out of my control.

@aspentoo and Joiedecour, because this is "damage" now, it is something I'm going to have to deal with going forward.  I get waves of just plain dizziness which I can't attribute to anything specific...and then I also get it (much more extreme)  in "busy" environments which stems from the vestibular problem.

My little ones love twirling each other or spinning themselves to the point that they get dizzy, so funny how kids can recover from that so easily and actually enjoy that sensation.  Not me!

Thanks again!

That's awful, Karen. So sorry you are dealing with this. Does it ever let up? Can't imagine looking after 4 kids with that. Hugs.

I am so sorry. You have no reason to be be embarrassed. I know too many MSers who let their worlds get smaller out of fear of something happening. I have thrown up, I have wet myself, I have walked around with Cancer and no wig. People are just going to have to deal with me with my disabilities. Between MS, Migraines, and Cancer I have thrown up a lot places. Sometimes I walk around with a vomit bag I got from the hospital. I have had guests over while I wretched like crazy. The other day I missed the pan and my sweet husband cleaned the floor for me.

You did not mean to throw up. The dizziness can be debilitating. You might have a driver at times. It stinks when our bodies betray us. Big hugs to you. Keep the faith in yourself.

Big hugs. I am constantly nauseous or throwing up due to the vertigo! It is one of the worst feelings ever!
Big hugs,

Karen, I'm SO sorry.

I had a LOT of trouble in any sort of big box store for six months last year.  I understand.  (I think  my issue was fluorescent lighting).

I'm praying that this is a temporary thing for you and it will pass.

Oh dear Karen, that's not good !!

I too have major problems in shops that are too 'busy' with carpets, displays, lights etc.  My solution has been to view the offerings of the shop online, choose what I want and them make a mad dash into the store to pick it up so I don't have to spend any more time in the shop than necessary.

Christmas time is the absolute worst for me as not only are the shops chocka full of stuff, their full of people too so my head gets a severe dose of the wobbles.

Best wishes

Poppy
