Question about pain...

I have a question regarding spasticity.

Yesterday I was standing at the park, minding my own business and feeling pretty good for the first time in nearly two weeks when I was suddenly hit by a shooting pain in my neck which shot right down my spine and my left side and made my left hand and foot go sort of numb-ish and tingly (though numbness & tingling are not really anything new!)

Within the next half hour I was literally crippled with the pain which kind of spread across & down my back like a burning & shooting pain. I was almost in tears & I tolerate pain well (I've given birth with just paracetamol & had teeth pulled with no anaesthetic so am not exactly a wuss!)

I only managed around ten minutes sleep all night as I could lay or anything and then within half hour of waking today the pain's totally gone!

My question is, does this sound like some kind of spasticity? I'd had similar pain's in both my calf's in the days leading up but today I'm fine!

I'm sure I don't need to remind any of you guys of this but MS is really, really infuriating! It seems to throw one weird thing after another!

Possibly an allergy but I'm not convinced because it always coincides with other symptom's. anyway, thankfully the pain has gone now! I always have pain in my right hand/lower arm and I have pain in my legs a lot but that was extreme!

Your pain sounds really awful Zoe.  Your skin troubles sound like they could be an allergy maybe?  Dermatitis herpetiformis comes up in  tiny fluid filled blisters so maybe is something like that????

Hmm, this isn't the first time it's happened either. It's happened a few times in the past and the back of my neck actually feels inflamed/raised on the muscle when it happens. I get a lot of joint pain on a regular basis and often feel flu-like at the same time. My neuro knows this and has ruled out rheumatoid arthritis and ms-mimics. I've often wondered if it's something like fibromyalgia but when I mentioned it my docs said it's not. I get skin trouble occasionally with the joint pain too. this time it's been thick scales on my scalp but in the past it's been round inflamed patches with tiny fluid filled blisters and last year all the skin on my neck started peeling off almost like a chemical burn. None of this is anything to do with ms but the docs don't seem to have any answers! I was just curious as to whether this latest muscle issue was spasticity.

It's not something I'm familiar with either, but I'd just like to offer commiserations. That sounds awful! As much as it must be a relief that it's no longer there, I'd still be getting myself to (or speaking with) the professionals (whether GP, neuro, or A&E if it returned) pretty quickly. Hoping that one was a one-off for you!

Golly thats a hard one, it didn't sound quite right so i went and re-read our health page on spasticity (see below) but i honestly still don't know if i'd say it is, still something you should get seen about!

I only known that i have not experienced anything like it, and I can't remember anyone describing their spasticity in a similar way but lol that doesn't mean much sorry. Hopefully someone will have some info for you.

Hugs............JJ
