MRI CONFUSION IN A MS DIAGNOSIS

I had an mri done today and on the order it said without contrast but the radiologist injected the contrast with no explanation. So my question is would she go on with the contrast if she seen something or would she do it if it was clear?

Hi there & welcome to the group.

I know that contrast is part of the protocol of MS particularly in trying to make a diagnosis. Your question is suggesting your Neuro suspects MS so I would see it as the natural response of the radiologist to give you contrast. I certainly wouldn't be worrying about the use of contrast because the form didn't request it.

Usually you have some MRI scans done then they give you contrast & they do some more. This enables them to see any active lesions that will be brighter with the contrast.

I hope this helps you a little. Let us know how you go.

Karry.

Welcome to the group :-)

Chances are it was a tech or nurse that added the contrast, not the radiologist. They would not have read your scans so"seeing" something wouldn't have factored in. The only thing contrast does is highlight currently active lesions. It does not show lesions that did not appear without contrast.

It sounds like you are somewhere on the diagnostic highway.  If you share more, and some info on why you started on the road, we may be able to offer some amount of support.

Welcome ,

Kyle
