The BTS Society

Well I'm on the go and road again. This time I made it up to Maine in only 32.5 hours. But even though I was on the road a shorter time it was harder on me than the other trips. On Friday night I managed to twist my right ankle so not only didn't I load up all that I had intended to with my bum ankle, but I also stopped less often and for less time.

The drive up was pretty much non eventful except in PA when a deer ran across the Interstate about 10 yards in front of me. I bet it was even more scary for the guy in the car in front of me. He probably missed the deer by no more than a foot as he was 3 car lengths in front of me. Speaking of deer I also saw my first deer in MA, but I suspect it was just a visitor as I spotted it only about 1/2 mile inside of MA. I arrived up here at 9:30PM on Sunday but quickly discovered that my tool box was not in the back of my pickup. Not a big deal, just inconvenient.

The Gas company people showed up on Monday Morning just before 9AM to start installing the new furnace. And by the end of their work day I had gas for cooking and hot water. I was so looking forward to a shower after that long drive. But since it would take a while for the water to get hot I went out to eat and pick up some tools that I didn't have with me. When I got back home the first thing I was going to do was take a nice long hot shower.

So have anyone figured out what the BTS society is yet? Well I stooped down to figure out how to switch the water from tub to shower and when I stood up I heard a real load "POP", and felt a dull throbbing pain. So I took my shower and then headed to the local ER. After about 3 hours at the ER I was officially inducted into the "Broken Toe Syndrome Society". When the doctor was telling me my toe was broken he was kind of amazed how I did it. How does someone break a toe by just standing up?

So anyway the gas people gas back this morning and I final have a working furnace. For a while it didn't look like I would have that today as once they tried to start the furnace it would keep shutting off after just a minute. The switch in it that controls the flow of the gas kept shutting and turning the furnace off. After about 1/2 an hour one of the techs told the other one to try hitting the switch while it was open, and that seemed to be the trick. So I guess the saying of something doesn't work try a bigger hammer is true. LOL

Lulu,
yes the no feeling does make a difference.  While I have throbbing pain from the toe, it is barely feelable. That is unless
I bend the toe, then the signal makes it through with no problem. LOL Te ER DR offered me pain medication which I declined as the toe didn't really hurt. But after the nurse taped the toe to my big toe when
I tried to put my shoe on there was pain big time. No MA doesn't agree with me, but ME does. LOL

Sarah,
Still no wildlife of any kind here. Maybe they came through while I was down in TN.

I know you wanted to get acquainted with the town but I wouldn't have put the ER that high on my list LOL

Seriously, sorry to hear about the toe.  That's a good one to put in your journal that I know you are going to write about Maine.

Assuming they just taped it?  Ah, time to sit in the living room and gaze at the pond in hopes some ducks will drop in.  They should be coming in at night now and leaving early in the morning (4ish) on their way South.  There are also some beautiful sunrises out the kitchen window towards Jeff's house.

Oh, the rose bushes I dug up are already blooming, I guess they like it here!

I'm looking right now at my very swollen, black and blue big toe where a frozen ice pack fell out of the freezer and landed squarely on my bunion-repaired-digit ... there is an advantage to having little feeling in my lower legs thanks to the MS, because it doesn't hurt now.  It saves me the deductible to the ER visit.  Did they do anything for your toe?

MA sounds like it will agree with you - the wildlife sightings will continue to make you happy.

Don't feel bad, Dennis, last night I put my back out while voting. But a broken toe...ouch, that can't feel good.
