I've suffered with the "MS Hug" for over 10 years. This symptom started with my first exacerbation. It always starts off like a snug sensation around my chest area (like my bra is on too tight). Gradually the pressure becomes so tight (like an old fashioned corset) squeezing so very tight & my chest feels heavy. My breathing becomes very labored & it gets worse if I panic.
The MS Hug is one of my most uncomfortable MS symptoms. I'm also very sensitive to heat, so any time I get overheated (weather, room too hot, fever) the "Hug" flares up. It also creeps up when I'm under stress.
BTW, this is my first post. I hope this information is helpful.
I echo the "fine" part. My husband gets do tired when he knows I'm anything but "fine". I just tell him that I'm trying to convince myself.
RidersUp: Also, thank you for the breathing question for this thread. I'm new & this is similar episodes I've had. Chalked it up to RA. Now, I know it's my very new auto friend, MS. Thank you for sharing & helping this newbie. I also hope this finds you breathing much easier.
I just had two days of pain from stomach right around to my back, very difficult to take a deep breath. I had this last summer to and ended up in hospital for tests, all test was good. They put it down to it must be MS.
Feeling abit better today....
I'm so tired of all this and when family and freinds ask how I am I'm tired of saying I'm fine all the time, but don't want to go on and on.
Guess everyone here feels like that.
Take it easy, and just breath
Wobbly
Is it worse after riding? I would ride and then eat and that would set mine off.

I've never had the MS Hug but have read about it. I think this is similar, maybe, but it's really more like my body, chest muscles, diaphragm, forgot how to take a full breath and I have to focus to get the muscles to draw one in. My "autonomic" breathing is very shallow.
Almost like when your foot is numb and you have to focus on it to get it to move correctly when you take a step!
Thanks HVAC! I'm seeing my Dr today so I'll bring it up!
I haven't experienced anything with my breathing, but can imagine how horrible it could be? Is this similar to the ms hug that people experience?
If you have diaphragm involvement it can be rough. I have under the tongue Adivan I take when I have an attack. Mine lasts about two hours with the worst pain.
