What a day!

Now I will take all the sympathy you wish to give ...

Two nights ago hubby tells me the heat has been on emergency bypass for 3-4 weeks and the heat pump was not working.  I hadn't noticed because the house was still warm but figured I would call someone to see if it could be fixed.  I woke yesterday about 5 am, thanks to the seond round of IVSM and had the thought - last time the tech found the problem was a tripped breaker switch.  So at 5:30 I am in the basement resetting the fuse box, and yes that solved the problem and money saved by not paying for a service call.

Then I looked  at the floor drain below the fuse box and see the sewer line had backed up 'slightly' - meaning I saw debris that shouldn't have been there and knew a major over flow was pending.  So much for saving the heat pump money - it went to the Roto Rooter guy and a whole lot more.

I finished the third day round of IVSM yesterday and it seems to have helped the walking and kicked this flair into a quiet spot, again.  On my lunch hour twice a week  I have been working with a student trainer and he is great.  However, Yesterday as we finished our session and I was getting up off the floor, My toes were under the floppy mat, I tripped as I went to turn and hit my head really well on the concrete floor.  Lots of blood comes from scalp wounds - and this one over my eye was no exception.

Beyond making a spectacle for all the students to watch, it earned me a ride in the ambulance to the ER - a CT scan, xrays and lovely stitches.  My poor student trainer feels so bad- he tried to catch me but I was heading away from him and there was no way.  It had nothing to do with my MS, but I have to wonder if the lack of sensing where my feet are all the time contributed to the outcome.

The ER doc was great and I was in and out in a few short hours.  The goose egg on my head was huge and quite discolored and none of us doubted I would have a significant black eye today.  When I got home I immediately showered to get all the blood of me and then I used a homeopathic gel - Arnica - on my goose egg and around my eye and eye lid.  This morning there is very little bruising which is a pleasant surprise because I figured dark glasses were in my future for at  least a few days. BTW Arnica gel is available at ordinary drug stores - I bought mine at CVS.

I had called Roto Rooter from the ER to delay the visit, but that still had to be taken care of as well. So last night, I had him in the basement unclogging the drains until after 9. And if you have had them work on your pipes before, you already know they unclog pipes but don't clean up after themselves.  So after 9 I am in the basement scrubbing the floor.

This morning I was out of bed at 4 thanks to steroid insomnia and I have some new aches and pains that weren't obvious yesterday, but nothing too bad that ibuprofen shouldn't help.  At least I don't have the huge shiner. A couple tums stopped the chest pain/indigestion that I get from the steroids in a short bit, but I was contemplating calling the rescue squad if my pain level didn't stop soon.   It was pretty intense for about15 minutes.

There was a significant ice storm overnight and my work opening is delayed by a couple hours.  However, I think I will keep it safe and stay home for the rest of the day.  A friend has suggested that I bubble-wrap myself to stay safer these days.

Of course this is nothing compared to what many of you face daily, but I had to vent.  Between funerals, relapses, accidents and the assorted joys of home ownership, life is good.     :-)

hugs to all,
Laura

Good Morning,

Just tell people, "You should see the other guy!"  Then, let them create their own story in there minds.

I am sorry you had to go through this, but pleased it did not affect your sense of humor.

You should see me this morning - not one, but two black eyes from where I hit the bridge of my nose.  I need a creative story, and quick!!!

Oh Lu! I agree with the bubble wrap and perhaps even some rubber bumpers and maybe some springs. I am glad that you took the day off and are ordering pizza. I wish that I had been that smart today. My day wasn't half as bad, but it wasn't all that fun either.

I planned on taking a nap when I got home, but a mother's work is never done and of course that didn't happen.

Get some rest, enjoy your pizza and have a relaxing evening and weekend.

I didn't tempt fate any further and have stayed in my nightgown all day. After last night's ice storm I don't dare step outside even though most of it is melted.

The arnica didn't work perfectly and I do have a good bruise in the corner of my eye and across the bridge of my nose.  Oh well ............  I'm past the vanity point in my life. Now I just need a really good story as a cover.

Thanks for all the smiles from your repsonses - I got in a good nap this afternoon, I took a strong pain killer for the newly emerging ache in my shoulder (funny, but I could swear I used to be able to life that arm!), and am probably in for the evening.  It sounds like the perfect night for a pizza delivery.

Here's to a safe weekend for everyone!

lots of gentle hugs all around!

Wow! Sorry. FYI at a certain temperature many heat pumps go to emergency heat. They can't get heat out of the outside air when it is too cold outside. Heat pumps are designed for mild winter temperatures. Then they use electric heat as a back up or gas if you have a furnace.

time to put you on the couch with those knitting needles for "time out" (grin)
hope you are on the mend.  Those overwhelming "murphy lives here" days are far too much for us to cope with.  But then its good to see Murphy has moved on to someone else's house.  Send him on his way to find another home!

Bubble wrap sounds like a mighty good idea.

Rest well, sister.

I am speechless! You poor thing!!

OK.....good.... now that you have gotten "relapse, steroids, ambulance rides, home repairs, sewer back ups, ice storms, tripping and falling, big boo boo's, and blood loss out of the way for things to go wrong in 2013.... enjoy the rest of your year!! ;)

I also suggest a padded room to go with the bubble wrap...at least for a couple of days. That is just my professional opinion.

Gentle hugs and lots of sympathy,
Laurie :)
PS maybe the steroids coursing through your veins helped keep the goose egg and shiner at a minimum.....

OMG, poor Lu. My condolences on the house problems. These always come at the worst times and wind up costing a bundle. At least you know how to fix the heat switch, and the likelihood of more plumbing backups is now remote for the foreseeable future.

I'm also with you on the head injury. I remember when I was a senior in college (yes, I can remember that far back), I was at Fraternity Row one glorious late October day, watching some friends in a fraternity football game. One play ran off the edge of the field, right towards me, and I jumped back, but unfortunately the guy running jumped in the same direction I did. Bang, my forehead was split open, lots of blood from an artery (heads bleed SO much), and stitches then ensued.

Had a bandage around my head, so I looked like one of those fife and drum men from the Revolutionary War, but otherwise was fine, or so I thought. I recall that the football thing happened on a Wednesday; on Saturday morning I woke up and both eyes were swelling shut and turning black. It was Halloween. I was going to a party and didn't need a costume!

I wore sunglasses for at least 6 weeks, the gloomiest weather ever, and probably looked like a Hollywood wannabe, if such things existed back in the day, but that was better than what I looked like without them. Don't think undereye concealer makeup was available then. This was long ago.

Anyway, you have my strong hope that this doesn't happen to you. I was a natural for it even then, but then I've always been a bit strange.

Hugs galore,
ess

Heal well, and rest when you can. When are you through w/the steroids? I hope soon.
