Missing in Action is a Military term for exactly what it sounds like.  Missing during the action of war.  This term has been used almost as long as the Military has existed.

By the way...I am a Navy Military Brat..that's the only reason I know what it means.  It's frequently used today as a catch all term for "haven't seen you for a while."

MIA means missing in action. I think the original is the Vietnam War, but I might be wrong about that. Now used when someone or something has not been heard from in awhile.  NOT ME! Yo'all hear fro me probably too much! LOL
