awaiting the worst

My grandfather had MS. Many father died from ALS when he was thirty two.  I have had MRIs and nerve tests to check for it but nothing showed up.  I have symptoms as if i had it though.  Numbness, tingling, shaking a little weakness.   I am afraid that many times is short and i go back to my nuerologist in April. My last mri was three years ago.  I am so scared.  I don't know what to feel or do. I need advice.  I can't sleep. These symptoms get or come out during or before my menses. Is there any correlation?  I feel hopeless please help

Sounds like some excellent news for you, in a couple of ways. I'd be relieved if they told me I had Lyme's. I'd say "Hot diggidty! Let's get some treatment started!"

Hoping for a completely successful treatment for you.

thanks so much for coming back and letting us know what the doctor has to say.  Lyme is a BIG mimic of MS and it takes a good doctor to tell the difference.  Congrats on getting an answer and now having a treatment plan to follow.    There is a very good Lyme forum here on MedHelp if you haven't already found it - they are very knowledgable and happy to be of help.

wishing you well, L

Thank you.  I have discs in my neck and back from a car accident that had moderate bulging.   My news had no lesions.  I am going to get another one. I am aware that it's incurable.  I just don't want to die like my father did

Hi and welcome to the forum. I can completely understand your anxiety and concern about the possibility of having MS when there is a genetic link to neurological disorders in your family. However, although I understand there is a small correlation that makes it slightly more likely that you may have MS, MS is not a genetic condition. So the only help I can offer is to say try and help yourself and your anxiety as if there is something going on in your body it is more likely to be triggered by stress.

In terms of your monthly period, I am not sure if there is any actual studies on this, but I know that I have read posts on this forum indicating that some people experience more symptoms and I know that I appeared to.

Also I am wondering when you had your MRI three years ago what the results were and were there any signs of any lesions? I hope that your next MRI goes OK and all I can do is say my thoughts are with you. If you have MS then there is nothing that you can do that will change this, but focus on the here and now. You do have some neurological symptoms but unless someone has indicated that you have MS, then there is still hope as there could be many other underlying reasons for your symptoms.

With best wishes

Sarah

I just did a quick search of this forum, and it seems that some women here have worsening symptoms around the time of their periods.  I suggest you look in the search bar, where it says "Search this community". I hope you don't have MS, but if it turns out that you do, this is a good place for support and advice.

Tammy
