Gosh, I'm really sorry to hear of your father's difficulty.  He must be frustrated and chronic pain is so difficult to live with.  Does he take NSaids? That is medication that can help relive pain and reduce swelling as can steroid shots.  Physical therapy is often a go to helper for spinal stenosis even if 6 months of it didn't really help.  If he can stay with it, it may.  Often physical therapy includes stretching and massage which could be very beneficial as well as learning how to do things safely and with the least amount of pain is something they help their clients with.  I'm not a fan of chiropractors (at all) but in this case, it may be worth some adjustments and acupuncture may also help.  Medical massage is really one of the best things I know of to help.  Very difficult.  Surgery is a treatment given but doesn't sound like available to your dad due to his cardiac health.
