All over loss of sensation?

Hi, I have been suffering for 2 months with an all-over loss of sensation, and loss of most feelings of pain. It is worse on the left side, although definitely still present all over. I can grab my left thigh and barely feel I am doing so except for on the surface level. My limbs sometimes feel like rubber or "asleep." But no pins and needles or tingling. Just like it's not there!

I also have severe sleep disturbances, and tiny twitches -- barely visible -- in my toes, legs, arms, and buttocks. In the first month, I had pressure headaches, heart palpitations, and coughed up lots of dark yellow mucus. It started with my inability to detox something toxic I accidentally ingested (we still don't know what it was, and 2 ER visits plus blood work were not fruitful, except they all thought I had perhaps accidentally eaten PCP -- not willingly or consciously might I add! Geez Louise). I've been cleared by a clinical psychologist of anxiety or somatic disorders.

I've had an MRI w/o contrast -- the neurologist says my brain "looks good" but there could be "scarring" (although not visible on the MRI? strange). He says my symptoms are "diffuse" and hasn't yet located a cause; half my symptoms are "brain-related," and half are "peripheral." I'm getting an EMG this week to investigate potential peripheral nerve damage. So scary! And a sleep specialist neurologist is putting me in an overnight sleep study with EEG.

What on earth could have happened to me?? It's so worrying that no one can pinpoint damage beyond a "massive stress response" and "electrochemical" problems. An infectious disease doctor that I went to last week (as a precaution) said it sounded "autoimmune." So he drew tons of blood that's out being tested now.

Has something simply... ravaged my brain and nerves?? I don't know what to do to get better besides eat well and take supplements. Feeling so helpless.

Do you have copies of your brain MRI?....I ask, because there are some conditions that can get overlooked ....like Chiari Malformation....I am not saying you have it, but some of your symptoms do sound like it could be.

All conditions should be ruled out.....is all I am saying.

If after your EMG is done and it is not the nerves...then they will say it is deff the brain...I would have them look closer at Chiari as a possibility.

Good luck with the testing and let us know what you find out.

Thanks for replying! Yes I have copies of my MRI. They said the EMG preliminary looks "good" but they're still tabulating it -- should know in the next few days and will definitely update. All my autoimmune and infectious disease bloodwork came back negative.
So my EMG is normal, although I still have diminished sensation, and occasional feelings of being burnt in the fingertips. I really can't believe no one can give me a definitive answer. Is it possible that another MRI would reveal brain scarring, i.e. can those things be progressive as the system heals?

I'm visiting an ENT on Tuesday because the MRI detected "severe left sphenoid sinus disease." I am also having some smell/taste and phlegm issues, so maybe there will be more information there (due to that sinus' proximity to the brain?), or maybe it's simply coincidental, OR maybe I contracted a mystery virus when my immune system was "down" that has damaged my nervous system.

Finally, my OBGYN tested me and my prolactin and DHEA-S levels are slightly elevated. I assume this could be due to stress and not a factor.

So I don't have Lyme or anything according to results... Puzzled! Anyone have any ideas?
