Can shingles cause standing up or walking issues

My friend at church was diagnosed with shingles and was given the shingles injection but now he is having real difficulty standing, walking, or even trying to get up from his seat at church.  We have anointed him with holy oil from Isreal and prayed for him in accordance with James 5:13-16 believing he would get better but his symptoms seem to be getting worse over time.  So, my question is does shingles actually cause enough nerve damage to cause these terrible physical issues?
