If it were your lower back, and typical muscle spasm / nerve pinching (perhaps triggered by lifting and particularly, by twisting your back while carrying a heavy load), you might find consider relief by putting a small box (~1' high) on your bed, and resting on your back with your calves propped on that box for 30-60 minutes. Let me know if that helps, I've other tips.
