Erectile Dysfunction and Weak Ejaculation Post-Inguinal Hernia Repair?

After an inguinal hernia repair ~1 year ago, I am still experiencing erectile dysfunction and weak ejaculation. No issues whatsoever prior to surgery but issues immediately after. In the surgery report it said they had to sacrifice the genitofemoral and ilioinguinal nerve branches due to severe adhesion to the hernia.

Post-operation I have not since had "morning wood" and have experienced somewhat of a decrease in size (both flaccid and erect).

After consultation with 3 different doctors (family doctor, surgeon, and urologist) they all say it is not possible for these issues to be related to the hernia repair as erectile and ejaculation function involve different nerves. However I have done some research and there are articles out there stating that (sympathetic) erection and ejaculation do in fact involve the L1-L2 nerve branches.

So my question is - is this in fact why I have been experiencing these issues??? Is there anything that can be done to fix this issue?

I had an ilioinguinal hernia repair over 10 years ago and I believe my ilioinguinal nerve is the one which had been severed. I likewise have exactly the same issues you do -- there is definitely a connection. Prior to surgery, I could instantaneously get an erection, it was hard as steel and would last as long as it needed to. Afterwards, I struggle to get one using manual stimulation, and it quickly goes away without constant stimulation. What a nightmare.

I have since read about mesh-free repair. If one *needs* their hernia fixed, this is the only way I would go, and I would ask a huge amount of questions about nerves and scar tissue. If you can live with your problem, I would do that.

Hello, thanks so much for reaching out regarding issues post-inguinal hernia surgery. Do you experience erection and ejaculation issues post surgery? Have you noticed any improvement over the years in these issues? If you have any questions for me please feel free, I've been trying to reach out to anyone who has experienced the same issues but have struggled to do so.

I also found this one article that is quite an interesting read and seems to support what we are talking about:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1351051/
"Impulses from the brain modulate the spinal erection centers (T11-L2 and S2-S4) to activate the erectile process."
Here's an image showing that the ilioinguinal and genitofemoral nerves supply L1 and L2:
