Essential Tremor?

I started having a tremor problem when I was 18 and I am now 28.  At 18 I was referred to a Neurologist and I was told I had Essential Tremor and he put me on meds.  They never worked very well and I went off of them about 7 months later.  I have tremors all the time and then sometimes it does not seem like I really have them at all and then sometimes I get like an attack of them and it feels so strange,  I just am sitting there and they start on really strong.
I am just wodering if that is normal for Essential Tremor or could this be something else?
Please answer my question, I do not have alot of time where I can set up an appt. at the doctors and I am just looking for advice on this.  Thank you so much!

Jessie

Hi there. Familial tremor is an essential tremor occurring in more than one family member, passed down through families usually as dominant trait. Shaking involves small, rapid movements, head nodding, shaking or quivering of voice if larynx is involved, difficulty in writing, etc. These are usually intention tremors and other causes which need ruling out is alcohol withdrawal, hyperthyroidism, etc. treatment would include medicines like propranolol, which blocks adrenaline related neurotransmitters, and primidone which is an antiseizure drug. Consult your neurologist for the indication of therapy and the relevant treatment should be given if indicated. Take care.

Dr. prescribed primidone and probably too high a dose and I got so dizzy, I couldn't get out of bed for 3 days. I just read a post about migraines (which I never even considered) and taking Excedrin.  If I am feeling dizzy, the tremor gets worse. I don't think mine is that bad, but it's irritating. I am constantly dizzy and lightheaded. I do play tennis and I can actually get through it; maybe my heart rate goes up and therefore the dizziness/lightheadedness subsides (?) Just my theory. Otherwise, how can I keep my balance while running and exerting?

I am 35 and have suffered from familial tremors for a few years. It passed to my neck 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. My grandfathers head shook so badly he could barely speak. My dad's is bad also and he is on strong mess which only control it partially. I also have two uncles and an aunt with this. I am scared about it and people are noticing now. What are my options for treatment?
