My 33 year old daughter has had years of uncertainty and pain. Several years ago she was told she had a pituitary tumor. They have watched it over the years and it has not changed. A few years ago she began to have problems with her vision. She works for a opthamologist so it was convinient to do visual fields and monitor her vision. She was referred to a neurologist who did spinal taps on her on different occasions to relieve excess fluid. It was only a temperory solution. Her vision continued to decrease. She was referred to Barrows Neurological Institute. Her vision has detereated to 20\200 in her right eye and 20\40 in her left. This past Monday the doctors were to put a shunt in her brain. That was to run to her abdomen. They didn’t do cause her pressures were to high. This morning was the day they would try again. This morning it was determined that it would not be put in. They said her pressures would be to low if they put it in. They have said she will need to see a different doctor. Upon her release from the hospital she has been instructed not to lay flat. Her pressures will go to high. My concern is a stroke. Can anybody tell me what her options are since they are not going ahead with the shunt. I’m also concerned about her vision and damage to the optic nerve. Thank you for any input.
