Hands going numb while lying down

Both of my hands go numb while lying down on phone. When I sit up I’m fine. The real persistent problem especially in my right hand is when I’m sleeping it falls asleep. I have pins and needles feeling in my hand, it washes my up, I have found relief when I hang my right arm off the bed, as if the blood is draining back into my hand. It’s getting worse and worse. I’m 50 years old and overweight. I eat poorly because I’ve been stressed going through a divorce. I just want my hand to feel normal again.

Hi there, what you're describing could be normal body posture/positioning, if your actually laying on your side and temporarily cutting off blood and or nerve circulation it would cause the pins and needles feeling when you move positions in your sleep and blood / nerve circulation returns.

IF your concerned you could mention it to your family dr but if you are more than a little overweight he/she will likely look into diabetes, peripheral nerve entrapment etc
