Dear Dizzygirl,
Thanks for the info. She was almost discharge but luckily my spouse pressed on. In fact, 2 different Neuros came up with different diagnosis. One had said Chiari making a reference to the tonsil herniation 4mm & suggested a decompression surgery. The other did another MRI & clear her of hydrocephalus & Chiari but had a conference with visiting consultants the next day & suggest a pressure test to be done for confirmation. It involved drilling a hole through the skull & observe the pressure between the eyes for 24 hrs. But their Chiari line of reference was different from the first Neuro. The 2nd Neuro made a reference from the drop of the hernia to the level of the mouth. We are more inclined to perform the decompression surgery as there's a chance of brain haeomorrage from drilling the skull. If it is hydrocephalus that required a shunt, we'll get it done later as seems shunt has a lot of complication. BTW, we're seeking a 3rd opinion on Tuesday before confirming the posterior fossa decompression operation scheduled for 17/09/12. What I really need now is how would you how Chiari is diagnose - the reference point. .

I have chiari also and decompression surgery is the only treatment besides monitoring and treating symptoms. I would highly recommend taking your daughter to a chiari specialist as it is a rare condition, as well as getting a few opinions. Best of luck to you and your daughter. I would also recommend the chiari forum.
I would recommend posting in the Chiari Forum as well. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
