My 7 month old granddaughter seems to be on track developmentally. She rolled, crawled, and is pulling up on furniture and "walking" along the couch and so forth. I am concerned about this "staring" type thing she does. She will be sitting and playing and just sort of phases out..stares, mouth is always open, no blinking. I call her name, snap, clap my hands...and she sort of tunes back in. Suddenly all smiles again and cooing and babbling away. This happens several times a day and lasts about a minute. I know that does not sound long but it feels like forever when she is doing it. Can this be some type of seizure?
Hi there. This needs to be investigated immediately since the child could be having seizures. Did the child have birth hypoxia or any brain injury during birth? Pediatric neurologist could investigate the child in detail, electroencephalogram, evoked potentials and MRI brain. I could not access the link that you have added. Take care and all the best.
You made the right move by scheduling an appointment with the pediatric neurologist. I didn't watch the video, but by reading your description, what I can say is that often seizures or other conditions can be shown differently in children so young, and 6 months would be around the age you might start to notice something abnormal. Types of epilepsy can be described as the description you gave, but keep in mind, no one here can diagnose as we cannot do a physical exam on your son or order necessary tests. What I want to say that's most important, and you need to remember no matter what, even if doctor's say otherwise, is that you are a mother, you have maternal instincts. If a mother thinks, or rather feels there is something wrong with their baby, they alsways should go with their gut feeling, as in most cases they are right. There are many stories where moms have been turned away by doctors, only to show up at the ER 2months to 2 years later with the same problem, only worse, but this time the doctors find what the mother knew all along. So my biggest suggestion is to go with your instincts no matter what, as those instincts are a more powerful tool than any of our medical machines made today! So good luck at your appointment, also feel free to do some research on this yourself before going so you have a little background information to know what the doctor will be asking. Feel free to keep us posted, there are other forums for mom's/peds as well, and use us as a resource if you have any questions! I'm sending my best thoughts and healing wishes towards you and your baby's way, take car,
Sara RN
