Query on motor neuron disease(MND) and diabetic polyneuropathy

Hi my uncle is above 50 and is a diabetic patient. 6 months back his left arm almost stopped working. His sugar is under control now but after various tests EMG was suggested by doctors and concluding remarks of the report were "MND of the ALS variety is most likely diagnosis. There is also evidence of diabetic polyneuropathy". From few days he feels the same weakness as that of arm in his leg. My question is that Is there any cure for it? if not how can we make this disease to spread gradually than fastly? I would be greatful if somebody could give me suggestion or opinion over this.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your uncle’s medical problems. If there is diabetic polyneuropathy, then the only way one can stop progression of the neuropathy is through strict blood sugar control. This would involve exercise, diet control and medication. Regular blood sugar checks and HbA1C is necessary for this.
If ALS like MND is the diagnosis, then this is a slowly progressive disease with no cure. It is managed by physical therapy, speech therapy, and management of symptoms. Please consult your uncle’s doctor regarding this. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
